i installed a short shifter in the race car today and it is hard going into 5th and doesnt want to go into reverse. it runs all the way through 4th perfectly.
ps. i havent ran the car with the shifter in |
pull the short shifter out of the car and put the original one back in. i blew one t2 box up due to a short throw shifter myself. besides i could actually shift the car faster with the stock shifter, the gates felt smoother with a stock shifter aswell.

besides that , i may be mistaken here but i believe that short throw shifters are not leagle in scca ITS. again its been a while since i had read the GCR for Improoved touring classes so i am not sure. i know light flywheels are a no no but any single plate clutch can be used. man i really need to look at the rule book more then EP and SM

Was it an ebay one or name brand one

i definately agree it feels smoother just running through the gears with the stock vs. short shifter, i sort of got it for free so i figured why no try it out |

what rear gear you running , a 4.66 4.88 , 5.13. we ran and still run in the EP car a 5.13 gear but if your using a 4.88 you should have the rpm to pull only 4th at most tracks besides places like Road America with the long ass straights. that would save alot of head aches with having bad fifth gear |

i asume your using the s4 or s5 stock na gear box , if so when we ran ITS we would explode 5th at VIR , we would do the 13hour race near holloween down there and would do 1 or up to 3 gear box changes a race wich just sucked ass. fast cars dont finish well when there getting gear boxs stuffed in them all the damn time. we would also hammer 3rd alot too. was funny having a line up of gear boxes in the trailer and shop. god i dont miss them days at all.

Transmission/Final Drive a. Any final drive ratio is permitted provided it fits the stock differential/ transaxle housing without modification to the housing. b. Any limited‑slip or locked differential is permitted. In AWD cars, the center differential must remain stock. c. No alteration to the stock transmission gear ratios for the make, model, type and engine size of automobile is allowed. d. Hardware items (nuts, bolts, etc.) may be replaced by similar items performing the same fastening function(s). e. Shift lever may be bent or cut above tunnel or floor. f. Traction control, if available, must be disabled by discon necting or removing a minimum of three wheel speed sensors. |
so i was right a short throw shifter is not permitted. you can cut the stock shifter but no altered shift piviot point. remember if the gcr does not say you are allowed it is determaned not leagle
