I want to be able to shoot flames on command. Is there any way to do it? Can I adjust the S-AFC some how?

Thanks

You can't have a cat if you want to shoot flames. usually an open muffler with no car helps but i've seen people shoot flames with a stock muffler and not cats (vosko) https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/blink.png

Apparently my TII shoots gigantic flames with only a few added chassis grounds and the mods in my sig.

UniqueTII 05-23-2003 04:13 AM

The more you try to shoot flames, the less it will happen.

j9fd3s 05-23-2003 10:49 AM

once you get the exhaust hot (20-30minutes on the freeway) you should see fire. my t2 always has shot huge fireballs (when it hasnt had a cat)

my NA used to shoot flames like crazy when i'd hit the gas after decelerating in gear on the highway... that was no cats, no acv/air pump, stock ecu and stock engine... it ran pretty rich.

if you can get it to dump some fuel on deceleration you can make it shoot flames when you get back on it, I suspect my injectors leaked at the time which helped get some fuel to accumulate.

j9fd3s 05-23-2003 03:01 PM

when we drove to sevenstock i didnt have the decel fuel cut working, it shot huge 6' fireballs

I can't shoot flames, and I've tried. No cats, headers, no acv, no airpump, stock cat back. If I get on it real hard, then let off gas, I just make a huge smoke cloud of burnt oil. Are flames still possible with the bad oil control rings?

Geoffman72 05-23-2003 03:40 PM

UniqueTII has shot quite a few so yes. You know theres 5 other lanes around you, and your only guide is two plumes of fire!

Apollorx7 05-23-2003 04:24 PM

What kinds of things determine the size of flames that are shot out. Is it the size of your tips or a certain muffler or piping? Im gonna be shootin flames this summer I cant wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

djgiantrobot 05-23-2003 05:14 PM

the size of the flame is determined by how poorly your car is running! haha

when i first got mine, it would shoot beachball sized flames just reving at idle, on and off boost they were about 10ft long. After i fixed all the leaks and changed the plugs it only pops a bit and shoots an occasional fireball right when the engine comes off load. Basically you gotta have a decently high EGT while being rich as hell...i can't believe we are having this conversation

Joe Flo 05-23-2003 05:18 PM

I don't get fireballs........ https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...O_DIR#>/11.gif I just get backfires https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/sad.png

I fart and it burns sometimes

I concur.

however, it does have some merit, people stayed the hell away from my car when it blew some oil smoke and shot flames.

vosko 05-23-2003 06:08 PM

yup my old TII with stock catback blew quiet a few couple feet long flames!

when fire comes out of the car in front of them most people hit the brakes

Just remove the cats, and block off the split air pipe, and take off the decel system

ChainSawOnSteroids 05-23-2003 08:17 PM

where is this decel system? and how do i take it off?

pengaru 05-23-2003 10:35 PM

theres the anti afterburn valve which is integrated into the acv, then the fuel cut on decel should just be based on TPS i think, i'm not sure how you'd intentionally mess that up without effecting everything else the TPS influences.

I was out shopping (Home Depot Racing) with RD tonight and I came up with something else to add to it, but I forgot now...dammit.

Geoff, how can you see the flames through all of the smoke? lol

ChainSawOnSteroids 05-24-2003 11:39 AM

and where is this split air pipe??? im not touching the decel system i tuen my tps to my liking day to day

UniqueTII 05-24-2003 11:43 AM

The split air pipe is the pipe that runs from the ACV to the main cat.

ChainSawOnSteroids 05-24-2003 11:57 AM

so if i dont have either one that you mentioned, i must not have the split air pipe then

i have another question, there is a 3/4 inch rubber hose that runs under where the acv used to be, if i block it off the car wants to stall, and then does, if i leave it open it runs fine, what is that?

rmaiersg 05-24-2003 05:01 PM

OK, I have the RB full exhuast and all emissions and rap is removed. It doesn't want to shoot flames!!! Anything will help! Please get me to shoot flames!

pengaru 05-24-2003 05:17 PM

heh, rob you crack me up.

did you remove your cat? air pump? acv? i pressume so since you said all emmisions are gone. you can make your TPS think your not completely letting of the gas when you do in fact do so, you will need 2 test lights for this trick (thanks mike), there is a three pin green plus on the intake side of the engine bay, one pin on top and 2 down and to the side of it, ground both lights to the top one and then put a light at each of the lower pins, then turn the tps screw until both lights light up (i believe you should turn the screw clock wise) your idle will drop significantly so raise it right away (by way of idle screw on top of the TB) so once done your ECU will dump fuel into the exhaust while your decelerating cause it will think your foot is not completely off the gas. while your decelerating your engine will pop and backfire like crazy, but if you get into the higher rpm range it will let o ut massive fireballs, the pics i posted was without this done, i tuned it to almost normal position (depending on my mood i can adjust flameage) if any part was unclear im me i13brotaryi or email i13brotaryi@aol.com

pengaru 05-25-2003 06:28 PM

is it the same on the S5?

ChainSawOnSteroids 05-25-2003 06:54 PM

im not sure about that?!?!?! but i performed it on a S4, is the TPS any different between S4 and S5? probably not, i guess its the same procedure but i could be wrong.

if everything i said is where i said it would be then it should be the same

ILUVMY88CABRIO 05-26-2003 03:07 PM

The TPS is different on S4 and S5.

j9fd3s 05-26-2003 03:16 PM

you adjust em the same though

I once saw on the show "Trucks", the guy attached sparkplugs to the tip of the exaust. He screwed them in and connected them to a switch inside the car. That is one way to shot flames.

75 Repu 05-26-2003 08:29 PM

yes, that is a way to do it, but the rotary can do it without the help from that..

pengaru 05-27-2003 04:00 PM

another way to shoot flames on demand, install a switch on your ignition coils' power leads that you can access in the car. While driving just cut the ignition for a moment and switch it back on, it will dump fuel while off and shoot some flames when you kick it back on. Guys on bikes do this all the time because they have a kill switch and carbs (still sucks gas in with the ignition cut).

I'll get the capability for free because I'm installing a kill switch on the ignition with the haltech install...
