i have a stripped engine bay of a 1988 10ae

would like to know if it is a straight forward swap or there are any fabrications that needs to be done in order to have this swap possible..

if not, then i would just go for an s4 engine.

thanks for the replies people

1Revvin7 01-09-2003 10:40 PM

Yup direct, as long as u get the s5 wiring/dash harnees and computer

joe2dmax 01-09-2003 11:09 PM

thanks revvin. ill keep that in mind

j9fd3s 01-09-2003 11:11 PM

the engines bolt right in, the only difference is the wiring. you can use the s4 wiring and computer on sn s5 motor though

1Revvin7 01-10-2003 07:42 AM

oh, even easier then.

vosko 01-10-2003 07:47 AM

gotta switch the front covers and OMP. the S5 is better but i'd probably keep the S4 unless your car is modified........

1Revvin7 01-10-2003 09:49 AM

If u run premix on an s5 with the stock ecu, do u have to leave the omp there, hookedup? What would u do with it??Cuz would't it go into limp mode w/o it?

The car won't run right without the pump.

j9fd3s 01-10-2003 01:13 PM

the 89+ ecu's need to have the pump plugged in, otherwise they go into limp home

another question:

will s5 tranny bolt right in in an s4 motor ?

and will an s4 tranny bolt in an s5 engine?

sorry for this stupid question.

Yes, but you have to have the corresponding transmission mount. S4 and S5 transmissions have different mounts.

joe2dmax 01-10-2003 09:35 PM

thanks 13bace. ill go ahead and remind the guy that im ordering the parts from. thanks

unfortunately i got more questions to ask you guys:

how would you know if you are getting an s4 or s5 tranny/ engine. is there any special distinguishable differences?

s5 engines have electric omp, easiest way to distiguish vs mechanical s4 omp.

how about radiators? would it be ok to use an NA radiator in a t2?

Yes, they are the same. I got a hole in mine in the AE, so I swapped in the one from the vert.

joe2dmax 01-11-2003 01:32 PM

sorrow told me that if i get an s5 transmission, since it has different mounting, i will have to weld something to hold my transmission correctly on my 1988 rx7 10ae.. is this true? please help..

No u just have to get the correct tranny crossmember/Ysection. I have a used s5 T2 crossmember/y section for sale, $40 and its yours. Your putting in a s5 T2 motor right? or is this N/a???

joe2dmax 01-11-2003 09:19 PM

this is a 1988 10ae t2. im still debating whether to put a whole s5 tranny engine or do an s4 engine tranny or do a "crossbreed"

revvin please help me decide on what to do. i am not so sure on how to do this since im not really "rotary inclined".

i would definitely want to get an s5 engine but wouldnt like to run into fitting/compatibility problems. please help me clear up my mind.

1Revvin7 01-12-2003 12:26 AM

Well I have done the s4 chassis s5 motor swap, best of both worlds, less wieght and most power, I held out for 2 months to get an s5 motor https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png Everything will fit fine, only difference will be needing to get the right tranny mount if you decide to switch to an s5 tranny, but any year motor will bolt in fine. Get the s5 stuff if you can, u can use whatever tranny u want with whatever motor. You just have to have the corresponding clutch/pp for the same engine, s5 engine/clutch/pp, unless you want to swap **** on the engine(you don't). So get the s5 motor, and whatever tranny you prefer.

joe2dmax 01-12-2003 02:04 AM

revvin, thanks for making that easy for me. ill go ahead and start looking for an s5 engine and an s4 tranny. know anyone with s5 engine for cheap?

ill keep you guys posted of my progress.

btw here is the car that is giving me such headaches

please add me to the 10ae family

joe2dmax 01-12-2003 02:06 AM

here is another shot.

joe2dmax 01-12-2003 03:43 AM

the guy "bondoed" that fucker up to the max. now i have to deal with the paint job too. but its all good. i would do anything to save the 10ae's

1Revvin7 01-12-2003 10:56 AM

:yum: What color are u going to paint it?

joe2dmax 01-12-2003 02:49 PM

i was thinking of painting it to stock color. im not sure what the paint code or the name of the paint is for the 10ae. i think its crystal white.

joe2dmax 01-12-2003 02:50 PM

anybody else have a 10ae here besides phinsup?
