Is there any differences between the S4 and S5 fenders and front bumper mounting holes? I ask because I have a set of S5 fenders that I believe are straight and I want to use them for reference to realign the mounting holes for the fenders and bumper. I dont trust the S4 fenders I have.
Thnx Andy |
They are slightly different, I was however under the impression that you could use them.

the fenders can be used . the bumpers can be used as well. but with any fender or bumper on any car there will always be some fitting needed to be done so it will look correct.

I have a S4 fender on my S5, so I'm pretty sure the mounting bolts are the same. The only differences I've noticed are between the S4 and S5 fenders are that the side moldings attach differently and the S5 fenders have a little screw-hole near the front of the tire-well.

The old thread is gone so Ill continue from here.
My dad and I managed to bend out the main beams over several weekends of work. We bolted a 12 foot stainless steel unistrut to the end of the frame rails and, with some cutting, got the rails back close to alignment. After they were straight, we riveted some peices of angle on to the tops of the beams where we had to cut them. You can see the peice of angle with rivets in it here: https://www.nopistons.com/forums/gal...1_90_59533.jpg After those were straight, it was time to work on the supporting sheet metal. I spent many hours working on all of that with 2 pair of vicegrips, a pair of channel-locks, an iron pipe and a big screwdriver for prying, and a hammer. After much pounding and cussing, my friend Jake and I made some meaningful progress. WE GOT BODY PANELS ON!!! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/gal...1_90_21210.jpg https://www.nopistons.com/forums/gal...1_90_57735.jpg The black panels are S5 instead of S4. They are kinda beat up but they are in better shape than the originals. I may also choose to put the S5 foglights in, not sure yet though. Once I get everything back together, I will have to start saving for a paint job. A real paint job I mean, not some Maaco ****. I dont know what color I want repainted though. The car was originally gold with black accents. Pics from pre-wreck What do you think? Stick with the gold or try something else? Sinful: Do you know of any good body shops in or around Denver? I am on spring break now so I have this whole week to work on the car. To all of you who have helped me, Thanks. To the few of you who said it couldnt be done: https://www.nopistons.com/forums/gal...1_90_24568.jpg |
thats a great job for something that couldnt be done!
btw id be tempted to keep the gold just to be different |
all i know is that is a really clean engine bay... nice job.
|
who said it couldnt be done?
long before frame machines people used whatever was around, usually something attatched to a large tree, lol |
I'd keep it gold, just so you don't have to mess with the engine bay/doors and such, and gold seems to be an increasingly rare FC color. I'd like my gold car to look as nice as yours did before the wreck, maybe throw in a some pearl or something.
