I painted these the other night, got around to putting them on tonight.

They dont look AS dark in person, I think they came out great and really shine the back of the car up.

I have to get some daytime shots to get a good comparison.

Let me add the following:

I did NOT have a S5 center, I did not have to trim a single thing from the S4 center OR the S5 tails.

I did not have to dremel the housings to fit the bulbs, all you have to do is play with them a little and they go in FINE.

All I had to do was trim a tiny amount of metal to clear the back up bulbs, you dont even have to cut it out, just put 2 slits and

tap the metal in a little.

I also did the same treatment to the 3rd brake light.

Before, my s4 housings were tinted a little bit, and I did the housings which are restored/painted a long time ago

For some ******' reason I love your s4 tails better...they are so much cleaner/nicer...maybe it's just the picture of the s5's making them look too dark? Can you repost a pic of them in the daytime?

Your engine bay is perfection for me...i absolutely love it. It seems to look almost like how a turbo car should look stock rather than just focusing on trying to polish everything that can be polished...me like!

Rob x-7 07-11-2008 09:42 PM

my s4s are custom too, the housings are sprayed the same black as my car, I polished the lenses, and tinted them from the backside, so it darkened them where they looked stock and not like they were messed with.

It was time for a change with the S4 tails, I have had this car a LONG time, I have had the S5 tails sitting around for a long time, figured its time to change the car up a bit.

In the coming weeks/months I will get the rest of my S5 parts on there, but for now I want to drive this ******* thing and stop looking at

it apart, lol

as for the engine- that was the path from the start, to look better then factory, but not like BAM everything polished.

Im debating getting rid of the polished IC pipes.

obviously i'm looking at the pic you just pisted, not real life, but paint the radiator black, and change the brake fluid.

Rob x-7 07-11-2008 10:29 PM

I aint painting that radiator black, too much work.

good suggestion though, I can let it dull out and not polish it up anymore.

The brake fluid is new, the booster and the master are original- im sure they are going anyday now

I flushed the brake fluid when I took the car out of storage

Black intercooler piping and manifolds look the best...

jwteknix 07-12-2008 02:25 PM

i think it looks sick the way it is

Rob x-7 07-12-2008 02:29 PM

im thinking of having the IC pipes done in smoked anthrocite to match the UIM/LIM.

They put it with clear over the polished metal so its almost transparent. Im going to give them a test piece to see how it comes out.

yea i think the blacked out s5 tails you did on my car is one of my fave features on my car, looks just as hot on yours, if not better since your whole car is blacked out

kevin.

Rob x-7 07-12-2008 05:36 PM

I think I went darker with your lights, your car is so over the top I figured why not

teknics 07-12-2008 06:27 PM

Wow, they totally suit the car! Me like!

j9fd3s 07-14-2008 01:34 PM

rx7 se 07-19-2008 10:58 AM

hey, is that factory brilliant black?? looks real clean..

Rob x-7 07-20-2008 03:37 PM

its 10 year old custom black

Rob x-7 06-07-2009 09:24 AM

here is a update on this incase anyone digs this up for info, I went over to coupe lights.

You will obviously need a whole coupe light set including center section, you will not need the wiring but if you have it use it.

You will have to trim some metal to fit the coupe lights, what happens is the coupe lights are longer so where the vert has the license plate lights and lock mechanism for the trunk in the center you need to unbolt all that stuff and make 2 cuts to join the old tailight cut out to the license plate light section.

You CANNOT just "drill for a keyhole" like I have read about on the boards for years and years. Its NOT that simple. The lock mechanism is contained behind the stock vert center section, so you simply cannot use the key anymore. What I am doing is using a old style "choke" cable like you would see in a older car or some 1st gens. You can hook the cable up to where the rod connects for the stock vert key mechanism, run that down and out the drain hole in the trunk. You could also run some good nylon string and leave it up under inside the trunk if your worried about someone popping you trunk open.

Remember if they want to go in there they will and probably do alot of damage, the purpose of the emergency trunk release is incase your cabin trunk release fails.

SO anywhere here are the pictures, I will show the vert lights first, then over to the coupe lights trying to use the same photo angles as I did earlier in this thread.

Hope this helps those wanting to put coupe lights in thier verts and debunk the "oh just drill a keyhole in the tailight" bit.

Im going to also note that the difference is minor when going from coupe to vert, you get a cleaner look but I would not take off perfectly good S5 vert lights for coupe lights, more so if you damage your lights and can only find coupe lights. Im just a little crazy and I wanted the back of the car to look different.

start off with my original smoked/restored S4 lights, the housings were completly restored to get rid of the crackled look.

How did you seperate the the S4 tail lights to tint them from the backside?

RobertWhite 03-13-2011 03:02 AM

Probably a heat gun,

RobertWhite 03-13-2011 03:03 AM

Pretty sure the FSM goes over how to remove the lenses.
