Ok it was 6 degrees out and the wind chill was at -12 degrees at some points last night. I needed to drive my 7 today because my wife has my winter beater due to her car in the shop. the 7 did not want to start at all it cranked and it wanted to start but it didn't turn over, i tried about 6 times and i gave up, could anyone tell me what it is, being that my 7 ran perfect the day before because i had to use it. but it was 32 degrees yesterday! please let me know whats up with it!

drunkin_idiot 12-13-2005 01:23 PM

Did ur fuel lines freeze?

FCs Rule 12-13-2005 02:46 PM

might of that is what i was thinking i am going to try it as soon as i get off work! so we shall see! do i need to do the flood process? since it didn't start and it has been sitting for almost 8 hours

I have had a problem with mine last couple of days when the temp was around 0. It would start but it would bounce a lot at idle like it was about to die unless i gave it gas and let it warm up first and then it wouldn't act like it was dying.

ColinRX7 12-13-2005 11:04 PM

was it just cranking slowly?

no cars like the cold, especially ones with 20 year old wiring

verify battery voltage and load test it, alternator output, starter amperage consumption.. inspect the terminals and mounting of all the main connections, make sure everything is clean and snug..

i'm sure you'll find something that needs attention

cold weather is murder on all sorts of vehicles

FCs Rule 12-14-2005 01:10 PM

yes i have learned that the cold is not the cars best friend now my winter beater needs a new battery! the cold is nothing to play with! but i am going to see if it starts today. the car doesn't crank slow but i have it on the battery charger and it should be good today it has been on t he charger for 2 days so i will see what happens today!

GreyGT-C 12-14-2005 01:17 PM

I wish i didn't have to drive mine in winter :(

teknics 12-14-2005 05:17 PM

my friends s4 t2 likes to flood in the cold...i dont know why. but on a related note my 88 n/a sat for a day or two the other day in bitter cold, i put in a new battery and alternator and when i tried to start it, it had flooded itself so bad that it had no compression so i had to do the unflood procedure for a couple minutes, then it sputtered and started right up.

so id say try deflooding it if it sounds like its cranking a strong speed.

kevin.

ryderx 12-14-2005 11:37 PM

i dont know if u saw my post, but my car did the same thing. i tryed to unflood it so many times, but i got nothing at all from it. so i pulled started it!

cdaleracer669 12-14-2005 11:39 PM

mine starts, idles, and runs like a charm in the cold. it only flooded one day, but with a fuel pump switch that isnt a big deal. it sure is fun to drive in the snow tho https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/wacko.png

wanksta 12-15-2005 01:18 AM

No issues with mine...

And sweet forking cross post...

Did you actually post this question at teamfc3s, rx7club, and here?

if your guy's unflooding techs don't work just pull start it. Sometimes my car floods and won't start with the techniques. I'll take out the plugs and it still won't run. So i grab my tow strap and have someone pull start the car. She fires up everytime. You can't do this on snow though. But that'll get her to run.

rootbeerdragon 12-16-2005 10:49 PM

ohh i love my heated garage, minnesota winters suck!

Tech_Greek 12-17-2005 01:39 PM

You think your car doesn't like the cold?! Try having a supercharger on top of your engine in a daily driver situation! HAH!

Actually, I think I have a injector sticking open, plus on top of that I need to probbaly get a new battery anyways, the current looks like its from 1901

Rob x-7 12-17-2005 02:41 PM

I used to drive my car all the time, it was fun getting in the vert when it would be single digits, frost on the inside of the windows

Car would make strange noises and it would take a while for the tranny to warm up though

donhayes 12-18-2005 03:56 PM

I hate the noises my car's suspension makes when its cold out. I think that something will break or is breaking.

DeformityX 12-20-2005 10:13 PM

My 7 hates the cold, i guess. Just last month when it was warmer, it would start up first try, no battery problems at all. Then it got down in temp, i started her the other day and let it run for a little... my AWS didnt kick on so i had to manually warm her up... she warmed up and ran fine then... but the next day i went to start her up and nothing... no power AT ALL. Battery is completely dead. Alternator is hooked up fine and everything, Bought a new battery... same thing, overnight again! Tomorrow im taking the alternator down to advance and having them test it. I definately think i have some kind parasitic drain... a short somewhere or some crap. I cant really tell... everything seems to be connected but the new battery started it and everything, but the next day, again, nothing. But how would the drain not have drained my old battery like it did the new one? The old battery lasted me a full month

FCs Rule 12-29-2005 10:31 AM

mine is not a battery problem mine gets flooded when it is cold out for some reason i tried to pull start it and the smell of gas that came out on my exhaust was so nasty it was like the gas went from the pump right to my nose, but it keeps getting flooded when the temp hits below 20 it was 42 yesterday and no problem lastnight it went below 20 and i didn't even bother, but if anyone is in the area of 18301 please let me know if you could help a brother out because i can't seem to unflood the motor and i can't pull start it anymore. please let me know

cdaleracer669 12-29-2005 11:20 PM

wiring up a switch to the fuel pump is a big help when it floods.

bobt 12-30-2005 02:01 AM

Cold?????? I've driven my RX's for 22 years in Northern Alberta.Lots of winter's it's -30 C for weeks.Keep gas line anti freeze in it ,particularily when it's real humid and just below freezing ,and plug it in when it gets real cold.Had a fuel pump switch in my last RX,but haven't wired up my new one.Haven't had a problem....yet.BT

FCs Rule 12-30-2005 02:59 PM

ok what is this switch i keep reading about? do i need to run it to the actual fuel pump? because i am going to put a walbro in the car but i would love to get it running first! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/BURNOUT.gif

Rewire the walbro with a good power supply.

The switch everyone talks about is wired to the fuel relay and allows you to turn off your engine by cutting off fuel to stop residual fuel pressure from leaking through the (leaky) injectors while the engines off, or for any other flooding problem.
