Hey guys, I have been lurking for about a week now reading everything I could think of. I recently aquired an 88 rx-7 that I was told was dead. I ran compression and got about 70-80 all around so I figured I would try and get it running. Finally got it started today but it shuts off after about 3 seconds. The car has been quite abused and so there are many broken vacume hoses and bad connections. It also has a coolant leak which causes the low coolant alarm to go off. (at least I think this is what the horrble sounds is) Anyway if anyone has any sugjestions for getting it to idle that would be great. Would the coolant alamr shut it down or is there certain vacume lines that must be connected for it to run. Sorry for the long post and I hope someone can help me out so I can enter the world of the Rx-7.

fix the vacuum leaks it wont ever run right with them. That coolant leak must be pretty bad for it to sound the buzzer as well.

Yah, for sure fix all the vacuum leaks.

If you do get it running, don't even think of letting it warm up until you have fixed the coolant leak and topped it off.

The coolant buzzer will not shut your engine off. The vacuum leaks are the villian for that.



The coolant buzzer will go off until you "bleed" the radiator. There are numourous threads on how to do this. The bleed valve is on the return hose right at the high spot. Think of it this way, there is an air bubble right where the sensor is located and the busser will sound until you get the bubble out.

Can i just plug the lines or do I actually not to fix them?

Is it completly stock with all emisions? technicaly i guess all you "need" is FPR, pressure sensor, oil injectors, and im sure something else im forgeting but with everything still on you should try and keep all the vacuum lines, only cap as a temp fix to get it running or something if needed.
