Well I started to take apart the TII donor engine for the vert.
Everything looks good with this engine except for the front rotor housing. I think there is some bad pitting in the exhaust sleeve and near the o-ring area. What do you guys think? The previous owner told me that it was burning some coolant. I'm attaching pictures of both side of the rotor housing. Looks like cavitation, if the problem is fixed it could be useable, but I don't think I would.

I found alot of junk in that housing's cavaties. The rear was perfect. I also notice the color difference in that area compared the other rotor housing. I was thinking of replacing it, the chrome looks look, too bad. I might get both rotor housing replaced to have a nice even engine. This engine is going to be stock and I want it to last. |
i think it could be fixed, but if you want the engine to last, get new ones, and save those for something else

Anyone know where to get the rotor housing at the best price, new. Mazdatrix seems to be the only place because is local to me. Any tips in how to remove the carbon of the rotors, they are a mess. C |

I have never rebuild a rotary but I would still use that housing as long as there is still enough meterial for structual purposes behind it.. Possibly sand the ridges down to make sure no more metal will flake off. |
its not stuff flaking off thats the problem, its the pinhole leaks that develop. they seem to do it most around the spark plugs and the exhaust ports. it would suck to put that together and have it use coolant.
its fixable though, have it welded, or even jb weld would work |
looks like electrolysis where the old coolant/antifreeze eats away at the aluminum... usually due to lack of changing the coolant. I would not reuse those
