I have a friend who swears that rotaries won't start in the winter, he says that both of his parents owned sevens, and neither started in the winter. I live in Boulder, CO so it doesn't get real cold, but it gets cold some days. My car (89 N/A) has started fine on days that were about 45 degrees in the morning, so I doubt it will have problems at 20 degrees or less.

Is what he says true at all? I just want the opinion of people who know what they are talking about when it comes to rotaries; this kid thinks that the eagle talon is the best car made, but he swears to this whole no-start in the winter thing.

I've had RX7's for the last 10 years (a 1986 GXL 2+2 and a 1987 Turbo II). I live in Montreal, Canada and here in winter the weather can get very cold (in the minus 30's Fahrenheit). My cars always started. OK, it's not like summer, the shifter seems to be stuck in cement, it takes a few minutes before the engine reaches a fast idle and when you start driving it's like somebody stole all of your shocks but when the car reached it's operating temperature, I have more fun on ice and snow then on any race track.

Installing a block heater will help you a lot when it gets around 5 degrees.

I was worried about this too last year but its nonsense, your friend is full o ****. My cold start tank is out and I still had no problem last year when it dropped to around 15-20 degrees overnight.
