Replaced FPD, now major flooding
 

Hi all,

I just replaced the FPD, all vacuum lines and all fuel lines. The car wouldn't start, had major gas fume smell. Pulled plugs and relay and had a fog of fuel come out the plug holes. Put everything back and it fired right up. I let it run for 30 min to get the temp up. Turned it off and let it sit for an hour. Went to start and major gas fume smell, etc. Looks totally flooded again.

Any ideas where to begin?

Here's an update...

Replaced secondary injectors and seals, they were leaking.
Changed oil. Car starts so fast I can barely let go off the key fast enough.
Strong smell of fuel. Again. Spent $80 to have a pro check it out, he couldn't find a leak.
He did recommend replacing the thermostat because it takes about 20 minutes for the car to warm up at an idle.

Is there some sort of adjustment to the fuel injection I should be making? Is it normal for it to idle at 3000 rpm for about thirty seconds then drop to 1500 rpm, then down to about 750 rpm?

I'm stumped. Thanks for any advice or suggestions.

The high idle at start is called the accelerated warm-up system, or AWS. It's a "feature" to help warm up the catalytic converters faster, so the car has lower emissions. Many people disable it for whatever reason.

Do you have stock exhaust? If you removed the cats, you'll have a strong smell.

it might not solve your issue but it would give piece of mind knowing it wont flood and that is to install a kill switch into the fuel pump relay its a very easy thing to do and took me about 30 mins to do the solder work for the splice points fyi soldering upside down might not be the best if you cant work yourself away from the work

Thanks for the replies. The car is bone stock. Suspension rebuilt, all new exhaust with cats about 5 years ago. All new A/C 4 years ago. Just need to get cassette, CD and headrest speakers working.

Found the source of the smell. There's a short piece of fuel line behind the alternator connecting 2 steel lines. The factory style clamps were'nt clamping any more and the pressure was pushing the line off. Very fast drip that stopped after the car warmed up.
