These questions are based on 89-91 (S5) Turbo II I was just wondering, what happens when you red-line, do you just have a buzzer to tell you? Or does it have soft or hard cut off? If not, is it possible to put a limiter in it? What does the buzzer sound like? Is it horrible? And can I change it to something nicer? Say I blow the S5 turbo engine or want to rebuild it for whatever reason.... I've kinda worked out that if the apex seals (the ones on the 3 ends of the rotor right) go then it need a rebuild. Back to my question.... What equipment (specialised or not) do I need? how much time and which parts will I HAVE to replace and which bits would be NICE to replace. And how much do these bits cost? Basically how much time and money and trouble do i need? Is it simpler than a piston engine? Thanks for all help. |
I'm almost positive there's a buzzer at redline on the S5s. I know there is on my S4, and I believe there's a cutoff right after redline. If the apex seals go, you will have to rebuild it. I haven't done a rebuild yet, so I can't let you know which parts you need, but I can tell you this, it is a hell of alot simpler than a piston engine. You've got three moving parts. :bigthumg:

they have a buzzer and a revlimiter. its a hard fuel cut.
when you rebuild the engine you need a gasket set, rotor oil seals, apex seals, a clutch, water hoses. the stuff you should look hard at replacing, are rotor housings, all of the compression seals, anything else that looks marginal/worn. the rotary is very simple to build, its about as hard as a 4 cylinder piston engine with having to do the head. mike |
Yeah I just rebuilt my T2 engine.. It was easy, just give yourself a nice clean place to rebuild the engine, and take your time. Buy a rebuild video from atkins rotary if you want or you can just go by the book.. You will need a torque wrench that can do 25-29- lb ft.. and a large 2 1/8 inch socket for the flywheel nut..
