I was thinking of a cheaper way to open up my exhuast on my 88 Turbo II. I've driven it before without mufflers (the rusted off) and it flew but it would sometimes only run on one rotor (i'm thinking fuel cut off maybe?). So i was thinking, if i got a fuel sensor cut, a downpipe, and just used the stock exhaust piping (all is brand new, new cat all the way to the mufflers) but instead of using mufflers, just fabricating some straight pipes with tips to the back? Would this work or is it too much flow for the engine? Also, would just a downpipe with everything else stock be louder and give me the performance gains? Thanks!

No mufflers would sound like poo I think. By fuel sensor cut, do you mean fuel cut defencer? If so then I guess your idea would work.

You should also get an aftermarket boost gauge and a walbro fuel pump also. Better safe than sorry.

Straigh pipes would be real loud, but if you want to do, then go for it. Running straight pipe to the stock mufflers will sound shitty. You will need to get the FCD when you open up the exhaust. Hitting the fuel cut from over boosting is not good on your engine. Also, please do some kind of fuel mods before opening up your exhaust so you don't run lean and blow the engine. Get a Walbro 255 lph pump, that should help, and they only cost about $115.

It didn't sound bad without the mufflers, i was just wondering if this would work, but yes i did mean fuel cut defencer.

It would work, you might get pulled over alot. I had a friend drive his car around with just a 3" dp, and it was loud as all hell.

The only thing i'm looking to do is either take off the mufflers and add a downpipe or leave the original mufflers and add the downpipe. Just the downpipe from the turbo to the cat...I read on those posted grassroots articles that the stock turbo mufflers flow well so i'm interested in keeping them on considering i just bought them a few months ago for $150 a piece. I wasn't interested in modifiying the car then seeing as it was my dads, now he gave it to me to play with

you're gonna get pulled over all the time and it'll cost you a lot, YOU NEED MUFFLERS unless you're on a track
