Hey everyone, I blew my coolant seals over a year ago and the car has been sitting since then. I have found motivation to do something with it so I'm thinking of replacing the seals. My question really is what parts will I have to have to do this. I really don't care to do the apex seals bc the motor only has like 50k on it so they're probably ok, plus I really don't plan on keeping it that much longer anyway. How easy would it be to do this? I really don't want to pay someone to do it.

another key is going to cleaning everything up, if the motor has been sitting that long it can gum up the water passages and make a little bit of a mess of things, was it at least sitting with some oil in the rotors? or just sitting as-is?

Yeah, i would def clean everything with some chemtool while it was apart. The motor has been sitting just how it was when it died. Should be out of coolant, which was about 50/50. The seals may be stuck, but the car did sit for a over a year once before while i was waiting to swap the trans and it started right up after that. Could be different now though since the last thing that was through the motor was coolant.



Is it at all likely that the housings are rusted??

if you let it sit with coolant in the motor, the IRON seals can rust into the IRON rotor. rotor housings are usually ok, and the irons are ok too

I had some slight pitting, almost staining of one of my housings, I dont know if it was water sitting in there or just the moisture?

So as far as parts go, will I need anything other than the full gasket kit from mazdatrix, assuming I don't have any more severe problems? If the seals and rotors were rusted would I be able to clean the rotors up and just replace the seals?

if the rotors are rusted, thats ok, as long as the seals arent rusted in the grooves, then its a doorstop



other than that, you need gasket set, rotor oil seal o rings, front and rear main seals, corner seal plugs.



while i'm in there i like to upgrade to the FD corner seal springs, if its going to be used hard the oil pressure regulator, and turbo oil pump.



everything else is condition + miles / budget

I'm looking through the parts I need and the price is adding up quickly. Should I be able to rebuild this thing for $700 or less? That's what my budget is.

if things are good then there shouldnt be too much of a problem imo
