does anyone know where a good and cheap place to find rebuilt kits for an 86 tranny? or should i just get a lower mileage tranny

Rebuild "kits" are not available. Tranny rebuilds are also best left to very, very qualified experts. If you do take it to get it rebuilt, be aware that the cost of parts more often than not exceeds the cost of labor (those internals are not cheap).

If money is an issue, try to find someone parting out a car with a recently rebuilt one or a lower mileage one.

they sell bearing kits, but you're better off buying all the mazda ones, the aftermarket ones are not as good. whats wrong with it? if its just bearings or it grinds into a gear or 2 it shouldnt be that bad, parts wise. if its actually broken, ie car doesnt move, then you're better off finding a used one.

the normal wear parts (bearings and synchros) are about $300-400, but like the shafts are $400+ each

I'm pretty sure its just the synchros. Because it's got 206K on it, but it it ver y hard to get into first unless you are at a complete stop where even then its hard. 2nd is hard to get intoand sometime when im downshifting i have to preactically slam it in 2nd just to get it in. 3rd Chatters a little sometimes, 4th is actually good, 5th is pretty good too. So what do you think it is or i should do?

Your supposed to only put it in 1st when you're stopped or going very slow. 1st gear doesn't like it very much when ou put it in to gear moving.

They do sell rebuild kits I will post the link later on. The one I priced was 280 bearings and seals, 300 something for the synchros on an 86 GXL.

Honestly, most cars I've owned do the same thing.

Minus the chatter in 3rd.

Rev matching solves it most times.

it might be a pilot bearing or clutch hydraulics too

JspecRX7 02-06-2004 07:09 PM

i replaced the pilot bearing when i installed the new motor, but what could it be with my slave cyl?
