The rear suspension on my 86 feels like its floating side to side as I drive. Aside from the bushings probably being shot after 167K, I know the shocks are gone so I'm putting new ones on. I think its more than that though, this is pretty bad.

Would side to side movement be most common from bad lateral links, sublink, or control links?? When under the car, everything is connected fine, just old and probably worn out. If its just the lateral links, I have a chance to get a set of low mileage 88 TII lateral links. Will these swap right into an S4 NA?

Thanks.

I can remember 13bAce having some sort of problem like this before the summer, something about some bolts coming loose back there?

i would condemn the toe control bushings and the shocks from here, although checking for loose stuff is a good idea https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

If it's made of rubber - REPLACE IT! The rubber bits are either dried up and crumbly or turning into tar.

Yes, check all those out ASAP. A friend of mines TII had some rigged bolt that was too long installed by the previous owner on one of the bushings causing the rear to wiggle like crazy over highway dividers/etc etc.

It's something loose down there. get some Sway bar end links and it should help the ride some. Also some springs. I recommend the RB for all around. The rear steer sucks ass. Replace them and you'll never regret it.

I didn't want to put much money into this car but of course I want it to be safe. I already have new rear shocks so I'll start there and also double check all the connections to make sure they are tight. I'm sure the bushings are probably shot on the whole car but there is no way I'm doing a full bushing job on this thing.

So does anyone know if the lateral links from the TII will swap into my GXL? In case they are bad, that is one thing I could replace for cheap.

Thanks.

Lateral links are all the same, can be swapped, no worry. Just about everything is swappable except for a few minor things betwen s4 and s5.

That was happening to one of my buddies cars, I suspected the bushings, but he sold it, so we never got to figure out the problem.
