I think at least from the mid 70's all automobiles in the U.S. are required to have tempered glass...?

i'm wondering if saftey glass is like the windsheild, where it will break but not shatter and tempered is so you can see the broken glass bits in the water.

if thats so, its tempered but not saftey

I think only the windshield needs to be made from safety glass. The hatch is probably just tempered.

So who makes the lexan replacement 2G hatch glass for weight reduction? Or should I just tape in a piece of clear plastic? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683785.gif

Try here:

Saves 20 lbs of high CG weight.

or you can buy lexan sheet 1/8" thick from GEplastics and take out the stock rear glass, reuse the frame and use the old glass to form the lexan sheet.

If you make your own, make sure the top edge is very secure.

That's a strong low pressure area at speed.

The whole top 2/3's needs to strapped down.

i may rivet it onto the frame as well. But with 1/8th sheet it will probably be flimsy, so i'll run two bars down the windsheild, like what iscracing does. I selected FMR102 GE lexan, but people (GE) tell me it's not an easy to use lexan.

BTW required forming temp is 310F in oven and vac formed. lexan sheet will begin to deform at 250F.

I'm hoping my old glass as template + heat gun will be enough to make that curve on each side of the hatch.
