my 86's rear is making a grinding noise as soon as i hit 10mph at 60mph

it sounds like a loud exhaust (lol, i cant really hear it ,,, because my exhaust is loud) anyways,,,i want to take the rear out of my 87 and put it on the 86,,,now the big question is ,,, what do i have to remove to take the rear end out? do i have to take out the suspension x-member also???b/c that looks like a big pain in the https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/moon.gif help is always appreciated

To remove the rear you should first remove the cat-back exhaust and the driveshaft, as well as the axles. Then you'll want to unbolt the shocks from the subframe, but prop up the hubs so that the brake lines don't get yanked. Then unbolt the sway bar links from the subframe. A friend of mine had his rear shocks ruined and his sway bar bent when a shop unbolted the sub frame with everything attached. That's why you should unbolt them. After that unbolt the 2 rear differential mounts. Then you can unbolt the front of the subframe, 1 at each end. Try to put a jackstand under the subframe to keep it from slamming down. Now you'll have easy access to the front differential mount. After you unbolt the front it will come out. Just be careful under there because the subframe and differential are a little heavy for some people and they can do damage to your head. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

There's no need to remove the transmission unless you want to do a "well, I might as well check it out." B)
