car is up on jacks, tires off, calipers off, rotors off, except rear rotors which is what i'm trying to remove right now but you have to take the axle nut off to remove correct? socket goes onto nut and whoops.. turns freely obviously duh. no brakes, e-brake, whole rear end off the ground so both axles turn. i go to use a breaker bar and shim it to the ground and pry up on the other nut on the other side and i would just pick up the whole rear end of that car before the axle nut breaks loose. what should i do? then.... i'm turning the rear rotors while it's in gear and notice that the drive shaft doesn't even move. recap: car is up on jacks, tires off, calipers off, rotors off, in gear, turn rear axles, driveshaft no go. comments?

the rotors come off with out taking that nut off

there's two screw's on each rotor, those hold it in place while the tires are off, you'll more then likely need an impact driver to get them off, i know i did when i replaced my rotors, and you'll probably need someone to help hold the driver while you whack it with a hammer to get the proper force needed

Yeah, with a #4 phillips head bit, you can do it with a #4 phillips head screwdriver, if the shaft has the hex head forged into it, but it is really hard to do it that way.

so you are telling me that you DO NOT need to take the rear axle nut off to get the rear rotor off??? it looks like it does. i had to grind the heads off the screws that holds the rotor in because they were practically welded in over time and we stripped them all trying to get them off.

you dont need to take the nut off.. i changed mine on the vert and just had to take the screw out.. drill out the head of the screw if its stripped, the tire holds the rotor in place anyway when its on

why does it look like the nut overlaps the center of the rotor then?

that's just how it looks, belive me i thought the same thing at first, and was asking the same questions. it's the screws, just drill the heads and slip it off

sometimes the rotors are a bitch to remove, LIGHTLY tap them with a hammer to get em loose.

Once the screws are out the rotor will come off. If it doesn't come off easily there's a good way to free them. There is a threaded hole in the hub of the rotor. In the same area as the studs and the screws that hold it to the wheel hub. Find a bolt that threads in to that hole. Run the bolt in that hole and it will work like a press to push the rotor off the hub.
