So, anyways, cruising around in my buddies 86, and suddenly the idle jumps right up to 1500 rpm, and stays there.

Can't figure it out.

Then after driving around some more, the idle drops right down. too the point the Tach is reading 0, and the car is still running, romp on the gas and not much happens.

Also, sometimes there is a buzzer that is going off when we start the car up. Sometimes and only sometimes, cold hot warm, doesn't matter it's done it all. No lights come on or anything, this has me worried.

Last but not least. Occasionally when the car is warm, and we shut it off for a bit then go to start it again, your foot has to be right to the floor on the Gas pedal and she still takes forever to crank over.

Sounds like an electrical gremlin.

I would suggest starting by checking the TPS, and making sure the throttle cable and throttle body are not hanging up on anything.

It also sounds like you have a possible leaking injector problem as far as the starting issue..

Hot-start flooding is a compression issue more likely than fubar injectors IMHO. Check your comp and prove me wrong.

At least you have sense enough to floor it, thereby opening the plates and letting more air in to offset all the fuel.

Rob x-7 01-05-2006 05:55 AM

does it crank really fast or just normal when it does not want to start?

fc3sboy1 01-05-2006 09:56 AM

sounds like a ground issue with the tach, i had a problem like that and turns out it was the main ground that was corroded near the shock tower.

s4s are known to have leaky injectors wich is why some times they have a flood problem . as for the rpm problem check the thermo pelet on the tb. that may be malfuntioning.

Capt.Moe 01-06-2006 01:36 AM

They are new injectors. about 5months old.

Need to get a code reader to check the cars computer, might have a guy at work with one.

She won't start unless she's floored. This only happens once and a while though.

Throttle cable and throttle body are fine.

How do I test the TPS?

You can use the same device to check codes and adjust the tps, it's cheap and easy to make:

Im pretty sure when he is saying when he romps on the gas the car itself does not respond, not just the tach

That's true. You hit the gas when it's like that and it is not very responsive.
