so i was in the junkyard today looking for some random parts and found 3 1988 base model n/a FC's. i'm sure you are all familiar with how the weather stripping on the bottoms of the driver/passenger side windows crack open over time revealing the metal beneath. but on any 89-91 FC's that i've seen this on the metal below is bare rusty metal...but on these 88's it was chrome!?!?!
i know some older vehicle have a sort of chrome weather stripping...but this had the regular rubber material overtop of the chrome. any S4 owner have these??? and at the junkyard i was able to find an FC battery box W/cover, plastic underpan tray/guard, inner fender well guard, and passengerside door air vent all in perfect condition for only $15 :bigok: |
well on my 88 its rusted metal. That reminds me i need to get that fixed some how.

hey man did it have any interior pieces (specifically dthe warning light surround in blue)
also i could use some mufflers that arent rusted to pieces (will pay shipping and stuph) |
I thought they changed it to plastic in '89. I know any that you order from mazdatrix now are all plastic, all years.

They also keep as much water from running between your window and your door which on a vert we need all the help we can get. |
hahah rob i used to have 1 inch of water in my vert when ever it rained
|
I believe to have found the source of the leak behind the drivers seat, thats the only leak I get.

the outer door weather strips are only like $40 new....
i think the early ones are painted stainless steel, the laters ones have a rubbery coating, but are still metal underneath mike |

You should have asked me. I figured that one out a long time ago. Just stick some foam wetherstripping in there, and it will cut down on the leaking.

yeah i got some in the door jam too
|
could my door jam stripping be bad without it looking bad?
|
On my car it comes in where the door and the window meet the car. The water can easily come in and travel behind the interior panels and end up ponding behind the drivers seat. I can look in there and see clear down the door jamb so it must be coming in there.
If that window molding is bad and especially if you removed the plastic sheeting from inside the door panel you could also get a leak from there. |

I would just get some camper seal tape for now to see if it works. Its seems like a poor design that makes it leak even with newer stripping. Dealer should have it, Victoria British, MazdaTrix would probably have it if you called them. I was going to try some camper seal tape which is basically a thicker foam tape with adhesive on one side, and stick it on the car body door jamb where the door moulding would line up with it. |
