Ok..anybody that remembers..had my engine installed (100K miles + or - whatever) Go it idling, drove it about 25 miles...had no power...reved very slow...4th gear at 2500 would almost die. Got over to drop my friend off at taco bell...took off on a hill after i dropped him so i could head home, very hard to get up hill, had to take off at 3k...anyway...car died...not a studder then die, but brrooomm...nothing...down to 0RPM like i shut car off.

INFO:

1. I jumped the inital set connectoin to get my idle up to about 1200 to 1500 until i start to build compresssion (rear rotor has low comp. numbers..hoping there build up afte being ran and atf'd a couple times), after i got idle set, i was damn excited, and forget to remove the intial set wire...so while taking buddy home, i noticed idle would bounce, varying 200 rmp jumps. thought that tps was just out of adjustment.

2. i pulled plugs after it died...and there was abosolutely...NO fuel or carbon on front rotor plugs..hmmm....i just cleaned them before installing..obviosuly i wasnt get spark there...but you think the'd be wet for fuel..maybe it didnt get to it...:scatch:....the firing order on my plug wires was also not right...had t1 got to rotor 2....i put them on in the dark, so this would be a VERY obvious reason.

Some more info....when i did comp test before the motor even started at all...

rotor 1: 90-90-90

rotor 2: 30-30-60

rotor 2 (rear rotor right) is low...im hoping an apex seal is just stuck...i havent dont a second comp. test since it ran, i was gonna wait about a week in hope that rotor would ragain comp.

any input, etc. is greatly needed/apprecitated...would leaving coupler on cause this? anything you guys can think of...thanks.

leaving coupler in will hurt power, i'm not sure to what extent, why don't you reset everything properly and pull the coupler then see what happens? or will it not run now?

isamu 12-05-2002 01:07 AM

Keeping the set coupler jumped will make the car run a little shitty I believe. Having bad compression on one of the rotors will make going up hills a challenge. Did the car start back up and idle ok after you pulled the set coupler?

cymfc3s 12-05-2002 01:35 AM

low compression would cause the lack of power

my spark plug wires were also messed up....can someone clarify with me the spark plug order...rotor one is the front one (closes to front of car)....the coil slot on leading coil that has white dot goes to leading 1 right? please help with the spark plug order would be nice. I have no manual.

No...now the car wont start after it died. jumped it but still nothing...i think i have no spark on front rotor (one with good comp) dont know why, hope leavin jumper in didnt fry anthing! i towed to shop so now i willl have every tool possible (DMM's, scope, etc, AIR!) to help.

take the spark plug out, connect it to the s.p. wire, set it so that the tip of the spark plug is touching the strut bolts and turn the car, see if there is a spark. if not get an multimeter and trace down to where you don't get any voltage, then figure out why. if you do get a spark then you might want to check the distributor, i can't imagine the car actually running if the s.p. wires were reversed with the distributor set correctly. do a compression check first before anything, so if it has bad/worse compression than before your engine is gone.

spark plug order.

Closest to front of car

1 Lead, White dot, bottom left

2 Lead, no dot, bottom right

Next to hood hinge

1 Trail, pink dot, top left

2 trail, no dot, bottom right

mis matching the spark plugs wires will cause massive lack of power, i know i've done it

if you only had the 2 leading wires swapped it doesnt matter

see..i knew i had em hooked up right. I've checked for spark before, and I had it. My CAS is aligned perfectly..haven't got a idle read on timing, b/c i have set idle to about 1200 RMP's....I can see the marks though, so I know its not WAY off. But when i pulled plugs after it died, on front rotor, there was no fuel on it, or any carbon at all. I cleaned them before i put them in...and they still looked like i cleaned them..i must not have been getting fuel, b/c if i was they'd at leasy be a bit wet. Leaving that jumper on initial set must have done something.
