Ok, today I got my Tanabe Sustec GF 210s. I wanna install em but i dont have a spring compressor. Is this absolutely needed for the springs or what? Any write ups?

you dont need spring compressors for aftermarket springs. You only need them if you are putting the stock springs back on. You can unbolt the perch from the struts without using a spring compressor to remove the stock springs, you just have to be VERY carefull because it will uncoil and send the perch flying a few yards.

which was is it gonna go flying? when does it uncoil?



i havent installed springs in my life!

once you take off the spring/strut combo off the car, you will have to unbolt the top part. this is when it goes flying.. so what i usually do because i dont have a compressor either is just step on the spring with one foot and very carefully undo the top part that holds the spring onto the strut. outside. its safer. Sometimes they wont really fly. But sometimes they will. good luck

go to pepboys or autozone and rent one...it will make your life ALOT easier and you wont risking losing your face.

even better then renting a spring compressor- go to a spring

shop and have then compress and band your springs for you.



if you have access to a torch or even a sawsall you can then

cut your original springs right in the car then when you unbolt

it the cut spring will just fall out. Install your banded springs,

then when everything is bolted together cut the bands and

the job is done.



People have been seriously hurt by springs, dont **** around

lol we put a 58 caddy spring back in, it took 3 people and we all thought we were gonna die. the 1 spring lifted the entire car off the lift, it was not cool! the caddy (a lot of old cars like my tr3) need inside compressors which nobody has

or just buy one for 20-30bux

its real easy to do suspensions are....

obviously you've never seen somebody's teeth knocked out due to carelessness when changing springs, no one said it was hard, just be safe while performing...

inside compressors? like the spring compressor goes through the middle of the spring rather than the outside? that's the piece of crap that pep boys loaned me. I ended up buying my own, the kind I needed.
