Ok. I went and bought one of those "Intake mods" for $2.99 from E-Bay for my 87 SE. All that it is, is a small transistor that says to put in the "Intake temp. reader". I was wondering where that was on the clip on the MAF sensor its self? Any help is appreciated. And I am looking to see if this is a joke, or if it really works.

There is only one wire harness on your AFM. Its the black plug going into the side.
I wouldn't mess with the wiring for a "mod" that really will not do anything for our cars. One guy I know of on here installed that for shits and giggles way back when and it did nothing. |
Those things make the car run like complete ASS. A buddy tested one for 25cents..

if you want to install it.... it would go on the intake sensor on the upper intake manifold not on the AFM.

What I am really trying to say is that I know where the clip clips into the MAF sensor. Now inside that clip there are several connecters, 4 silver/nickle ones and 2 copper ones. I was wondering if anybody knows which connecters are the ones for the Intake Air Temperature sensor. What the sensor throws out when it reads the intake air temp., depending on what the temp. is, it throws out a certain OMHs reading telling the computer to either give more fuel if it is colder air, and less fuel for warmer air. This resistor sends out a certain OMH telling the computer that the air coming in is colder that it actually is, but it is constant. I hope that cleared up any confusion about this, or maybe it confused you more?! Sorry. But if anybody knows that would be great.

That Intake mod is a scam, a fraud, P.O.S., you got ripped off 2.99 start addng to your list of ricer bought parts that make you belive you have more HP. why do people claim these things are scams, this is the ghetto approach to efi 'tuning'. It works, just not terribly well and can be a pain to get it just right.
The ecu uses intake temp as a correction factor for fuel and sometimes ignition timing too, I'm not sure on the FC ecu but this is just a general statement. The way the ecu gauges air temp is with a thermistor, a resistor that varies it's resistance with temperature. When you wire in the additional resistor, you're assuming the stock ecu runs the engine rich always, and this is how you can lean it out a bit. The only problem is your change is the same in all conditions, which is why something like a SAFC is nicer since it can change the 'conditioning' (varying of the resistance) based on rpm and tps inputs etc. you don't have to use intake temp either, coolant temp can also be altered with similar results, but this depends on the specific ecu, you'd likely want to focus on a sensor that primarily is used for correcting fuel, since you can advance ignition timing statically by just turning the CAS. Buying one of these things for any significant amount of money is a ripoff though, it's simply a resistor, go to radio shack and buy a set for a buck. |
