how much time, money, and agony will it cost me to turbo my '90 gxl????
|
alot. easiest way will be carbbing your car, but you will still not be able to boost tooooo much cause of the high compression, unless you rebuild, and put some chunky ass apex seals, even then the 6port will be a bitch...

Mariah will do it custom. And so will Extreme( i Heard)
Link To Mariah PS I also want to do this but i want to keep EFI. |
It would depend on how you want to turbocharge it. You could get all the **** you need from a TII ( engine, ECU, wire harness, hood, tranny, driveline, and rear end) or you can try to put a turbo on your NA (I would not recomend). If you turbo your NA you would have to keep your boost low, and would want to upgrade your fuel injectors to TII. What did you want to do?

Well, as the majority in here goes....putting a turbo on an na is not a good idea, seems silly to some. Me, I'm different though, I think you should try it. Lol, I would have if my NA didn't blow up. I've seen kits on thepartstrader that will give you everything you want for a NA turbo kit...the cost ranges from 1500 to 3000. I know people have made custom kits, and there was one on thepartstrader that dropped the car into the 11s running only about 7psi....turboing an NA will give you more horsepower, but you sacrifice reliability. I would only do it for racing. I could go on and on about this, because thats all I ever researched for the year I was NA, lol...I'll let somebody else voice an opinion...

If it were me, I would have the motor rebuilt, get some nice 3mm heavy APEX seals, be sure to use all new strong corner seals and oil seals too. It would be better to use an 86 to 88 block due to the 89+s being higher compression. You can keep your EFI...carbs are good for supercharging. If you were building a full race motor, you could also use T2 housings with your NA rotors...but there is more complex things involved in doing that....basically get a good rebuild with strong reliable parts, boost 6 to 8 psi(even though you can live at 10psi on an 88 NA for about a month)...good exhaust, ecu, tranny(which you have ic)...the other thing is the IC..you really don't NEED an IC for only 6 or 8psi..most kits I've seen that were custom for an NA didn't have them. Again, I'll quit rambling...lol...
