Pulled the pressure plate and clutch. Looks a bit used up. I'm guessing those needle bearings laying there are what's left of the pilot bearing?

1988RedT2 07-30-2005 12:45 PM

Here's the clutch disc. Has NKK stamped on it, along with a crown symbol. Is this a stock clutch? Shows a bit of wear, I'd say...

aftermarket clutch, it should be a daiken

1Revvin7 07-30-2005 07:12 PM

You're correct, that is whats left of your T/O bearing.

You mean pilot bearing, right? The throwout, or release bearing is on the clutch fork in the tranny. It's still intact.

75 Repu 07-31-2005 09:55 AM

Yeah pilot bearing.. damn.. thats nuts.. why does that happen?

RONIN FC 07-31-2005 11:43 AM

Because it never gets changed.

1988RedT2 07-31-2005 01:47 PM

Car only had 115k on it. I have a feeling some of those miles weren't easy ones.

ColinRX7 07-31-2005 05:44 PM

I forget the general rule of pilot replacement but it's something ridiculous

whenever you have the clutch out

1988RedT2 08-01-2005 07:24 AM

Since no one has commented on it, I'm guessing the flywheel surface is pretty typical? It looked pretty torn up to me, but this is the first one I've looked at.

mazdarx713b 08-01-2005 09:58 AM

doesnt the stock clutch have only 4 springs?

Every clutch I've pulled has 6 but whos to say every clutch I've pulled is a factory disc...

I would hazard a guess and say factory has 6 springs

I thought it was before that...

Every time you pull the clutch for sure but I thought they called for replacement even before you need to replace the disc

mazdarx713b 08-01-2005 12:05 PM

how can you tell if your clutch is stock?
