I was wondering if someone out there can give me a quick rundown on properly installing the CAS, so that my rx7 doesn't randomly explode when install the rebuild motor. The notches that need to be lined up on the CAS are obvious, but I'm having trouble with the main pulley. There are no yellow, or red marks, I've I seen described all over the web. I do however see a dimple imprinted on the face of the pulley.... is this my alignment marker? I can still easily see into the intake/exhaust ports to somewhat verify the location of each rotor. The flywheel key is also visible at this point, if this will help too. I know the importance of installing this correctly, and don't want to trash all the work I've put into the engine.

on the front cover itself should be a small needle looking pointer above the crank pulley.



then on the crank pulley, the part closest to the front cover should have two small nicks, about an inch apart but right next to each other basically. stock theyre yellow and red but over time the color fades.



If you dont see it just look real close, youll see it eventually.



Now if you're looking at the pulley head on the first mark on the right is the yellow, or leading, mark. the mark on the left is the red, or trailing, mark.



Line that first mark on the right with the needle sticking out of the front cover. Then line up the CAS notches and slip the CAS in.

Awesome.. the colors where definitely gone, but I was able to find the two nicks in the pulley after looking really closely at it. Now my question is.... which rotor is supposed to be firing first. I can install the pulley 180 degrees different which moves the marks and have either rotor in the completely compressed position for firing... just need to know if the front or rear (flywheel end) rotor is supposed to be the first to fire. Thanks again!

im guessing its an s4 motor then? the TDC is in relation to the first rotor.

its an S5 N/A...

s5 pulley should only be able to be fully bolted up with all 4 bolts in only one direction.

I was only using two of the four bolts, as I'm not ready to completely tighten everything down... that might have been the problem. I'll double check tonight to make sure all four go in properly. Thanks again for the help.

Sorry to but in, but I have a similar question.

Does this apply to the N/A distributor as well? (s4 N/A)

What "dimples" are on the dist. itself and what does it need to be lined up with?

on the CAS, on the bottom gear when you pull it out there is a dimple on the gear itself, then just above the gear you'll see a straight piece of metal that sort of looks like a pointer. Line up the pointer with the dimple and then slide it in, once you setup your crank pulley like how i told him to do it above.
