for some reason i always come up with these stupid ideas and i don't know why but i have had the thought for a wile, and i was wondering if you could run a rotary off propane???it works with normal internal cumbustion engines why not rotary???? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/blink.png

try it, let me know how it works
ps, hank hill would be stoked |
dude to much tv. i was just wondering how to do it with a carb?
|
You can't use propane in a carb. Carbs have floats in them that "meter" or control the amount of fuel that is in them. These floats are sitting in LIQUID gasoline all the time. Liquid propane is extremely cold and needs to be compressed in order to be liquid (i think). It can run on a fuel injection system because of the high pressure (30-35psi) that they run at. Most carbs (weber, dellorto, holley) use about 1.8-10 psi of fuel pressure, the propane will "vapor lock" the carb and push the float bowl all the way up on its needle and seat and shut fuel off. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif
stick with EFI, it costs more, but its worth it! |

It can be done...

At first I thought you meant that you wanted to inject propane instead of water injection.
|
Ok it can be done. Sorry. but why?
|
i don't know maybe just for the hell of it or there may be some plusses about it or it could just be a waste of time you don't know until you try?

In some area of the country it is easier to get propane then gas, and the milage is supposed to be better, but drawbacks are that you gotta have those hefty ass tanks for the fuel..

I've never heard of propane being used in a gasoline engine. I have heard that it would be dangerous to attempt. However, it is notorious for the diesel freaks. Here is your analogy: propane is to a diesel-engine; what nitrous oxide is to a gasoline-engine. I have seen a 450 HP Duramax that injected propane and there are companies out ther that supply pane kits. Maybe you could talk to one of them about it.

My company spent a year and I dont how much money putting propane on all its gasoline engines, pickups and cars, the system was in place and used for about 8 months, then the company pulled all of the propane systems back out of the vehicles. So, I asked one of our mechanics why all this happened. He said because it cost too much for propane and the vehicles did not perform as well as they did on gasoline. If you do the conversion, good luck.
