I started disassembling my turbo to port the wastegate. The problem is that it looks like it's not very accessible. Do I have to cut off the flap covering the wastegate and weld it ack on or is there some special technique to porting it? It's an s5 turbo by the way.

Dont cut anything! What you want to do, is remove the clip that holds the wastegate actuator rod on to the side of the wastegate flapper hinge. take the rod off and you will be able to have the wastegate open all the way giving easy access to the wastegate port. I recommend backcutting it as well as enlarging it.

WTF!!! The the part that flips to the flapper didn't open all the way b/c the housing held it back. I can't believe I didn't realize that. Anyhow, what's "backcutting" it?

Backcutting would be porting at an angle so basically;

Except obviously it wouldnt be so extreme. Basically its just to let the exhaust flow into the wastegate area easier.
