I can't get my turboII to do anything, this is what it does, u go to turn the key to start the engine and it does nothing, all u can here is the starter relay click, i noticed that "None" of my dash lights are coming on, the only one that comes on is the brake light when the emegency brake is on.pretty much everything else work electronically such as the headlights and whatnot..Its like the computer is not gettn any power when u try to start the car. I dont know if the security system is jamed on it or something,...Need some serious help...Thanks

Stupid question, but it must be asked what the story with yopur battery/ charging system, terminals?

MazdaEnthused 08-05-2003 04:48 PM

maybe an altrenator? thats what happened to my moms lumina just clicked so i changed the alt. and havn't had a prob. since

j9fd3s 08-05-2003 04:49 PM

maybe look at the fuses too?

mike

If the battery has a full charge it should start whether the alternator is good or bad. I'd check and see what the terminals look like, then have the battery tested make sure it is holding a charge.

88turboII 08-05-2003 05:06 PM

It's not the battery, because i just put a new one in it and i replaced the battery cables too, also not a fuse cause i check that too

88turboII 08-05-2003 05:08 PM

i also tried push startin it and it did nothing too...just adding that little bit of info to help out

TheCamel 08-05-2003 05:26 PM

since you say you just replaced the battery and cables take a good look at where the connections are mounted (starter and ground) although you may think you got them tight enough, constant vibration can cause them to loosen up quickly. The amount of amps to turn on your brake light is not that high in comparison as the amount of amps it takes your starter to engage. WHat caused you to replace the battery in the first place? Just because the battery is new does not mean it cannot be discharged by a draw in your electircal system. What happens when you jump start it?

88turboII 08-05-2003 05:32 PM

the same thing, u can here the starter relays click and that's it

88turboII 08-05-2003 05:36 PM

i also put the booster pack on it just to make sure it wasnt the battery and it still did the same thing...If it was the battery then it should have started with 14 volts...That's y i tried to push start it

phinsup 08-05-2003 05:49 PM

Sounds like you have an electrical issue of one sort or another.

88turboII 08-05-2003 05:51 PM

yea i'm going to try to troubleshoot it this weekend but i was going to see if anybody else has had this problem before...Thanks though

RX7Aggie 08-05-2003 11:18 PM

there are two wires running from the positive terminal: one directly to the starter and the other to the engine bay fuse box. mine was chewed up with wires exposed and shorting out when my engine flooded and starter solenoid went out. i replaced it with 2' of 8-10 gauge wire from an audio store.

check these wires, the one running to and from the engine bay fuse box. this could be your problem.

that's all i got.

It is possibly the one of the main fuses. In the 88, check the fuse box which is located near the battery along the driver's side strut tower. The fuses can blow quite easily when you remove the battery cables.
