Thanks to the genius of 13BAce and his timely advice (I can't belive I didn't put the airflow meter and hose back in place. I'll blame it on the excitment of getting it all back together!) my RX-7 is mostly running.
Or rather it's back to step 1 as far as the problem goes. New inejctors were not the answer (Not a surprise there really). The problem is this: The car will not idle and if you get on the accelerator to hard (i'd say a bit more the half way down) it will choke and die. You may be able to 'catch' it but it's certainly not driveable. I've checked the TPS and it's adjustement, it's all good. Any other ideas on this one? I'm going to check the timing a bit later. Anything else that jumps out at ya? And anyone have any ideas on how to get a busted 79 RX-7 from Colorado to Iowa? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png |
No need to tell me what I already know. :sigh: You may have a vacuum leak somewhere. Try messing aroiund with the hoses, etc.

I hate vacume leaks, they're such a pain to find.
My usual solution is to spray carb cleaner where I think the leak might be and see if it drops the speed of the motor. Think that would do any damage to the rotary? I've heard stories of people blowing their apex seals with starting fluid and the like. |

Are you sure that AirFlow meter is good?
A Vacumm leak would cause the poor idle, but I don't think it would effect stomping the pedal down. Sounds like the motor is gasping for fuel... IE: Meter not working. I had a bad 3800 RPM problem on my N/A that turned out to be a bad set of injectors. but I don't think that is your problem. Many shops use propane to diagnose vacumm leaks, same idea as the carb cleaner, just less messy. Good Luck |
god i had that happen to me. It is a really big vac leak. When i had my big prob. i had to keep on the acclerat a little bit with a board to keep it running, then if i put it down more than like 1/2 way like u said it would choke and die. I could heard a big choke sound come from my intake when it did it, i was revving it from the throttle body, see if u can hear it, thats if u have an intake though.

Not hearing a whole heck of a lot as far as the hiss of a vaccum leak, but it does make a huge sucking noise if you stomp it. Take it that's not normal? My old 79 made a noise about like that but no vaccum leak there. Sorry for the idiot questions, first time 2nd gen owner https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png Loved my old 79 till it ate it (no more apex seal for you!) and I sold it when I moved to Iowa. Awesome car *sighs* |
