ok, so i think i found the right stuff to replace the front diff mount, rear diff mounts, and u-joints from mazdatrix. i'm just looking for feedback on if these prices are good, if i've even got the right parts, or if someone offers the same product somewhere else for cheaper

you cannot replace the stock ujoints, you either need a whole new OEM driveshaft, or the aftermarket mazdatrix unit which has replaceable ujoints.



either way, you need to replace the whole driveshaft.



you could ghetto install some ujoints but ive had them fail on cars ive bought where the owners tried that. (*awaits fc3sboy*)

ummmmm...my buddy used to install them on 7's all the time when he worked at a rotary shop. he says it's really easy; also, i've seen a few methods on how to replace them.



if you say you can't replace the stock u-joints, why does carquest sell them?

"Note: The factory Mazda OEM driveshafts from '83-on have non-replaceable U-joints -- you have to buy a new driveshaft if they wear out.



The "Aftermarket" driveshafts we offer are completely new, balanced and ready to install. They incorporate traditional replaceable u-joints so you can rebuild them if you ever wear them out."



so your buddy ghetto rigged his ujoints, and all the methods youve seen are ghetto methods.



as for carquest...you can ask them for valve cover gaskets and theyll say they have a listing but none in stock, but hey if you wanna take carquest advice over mine, feel free.

I was going to use this write-up to replace them; I've seen lots of methods similar to this posted, so I'm sure it's not impossible.



I guess I should've been clearer, because I know there's a debate whether they're replacable; I was more concerned whether those prices were good or not.



Also, Carquest said they actually had 4 in stock...

oh, i forgot, forget the mazdatrix u-joints, im probably going with the rockford driveline ones

there is no debate.



they are not replaceable.



replacing something, not replaceable in your driveline, especially your driveshaft, is asking for serious problems.



when i bought my n/a some replaced the ujoints and the driveshaft went apart in 2 and fucked up a bunch of **** under the car, and that was a stock powered n/a, i could only imagine having that happen at the track.



but hey, if you cant shell out maybe $25 for a used, good condition driveshaft, then i dont know how you afford a rotary.



on a side note, that "write up" is the worst thing ive ever read. Yea just start "hitting the living ****" out of the weakest area of the driveshaft, which is a balanced assembly. yea, good one.

dude, i'm sorry if i pissed you off, i'm just going off what my mechanic friend has done (he was an rx7 mechanic in the early to mid 90's), and i *have* read quite a bit on whether they're replacable or not.



if i could find a driveshaft around here for that price, of course i would jump at it..that's cheaper than new u-joints :P but, no, there aren't any available around here. i've found *one* rx7 in a junkyard that's of any value, and that's nearly 60 miles away, and fyi he wanted $3000 for a motor that he didn't even know if it ran or not, so i don't even want to ask him what he'd want for a driveshaft.



as for the u-joints, i find it hard to believe they're "not replaceable" (contrary what mazda says) if there's at least one company that makes u-joints *specifically* for the rx7 of that year. again, you might call it ghetto or whatever, but i trust my friend and his experience. and, to reiterate, this isn't a "i've got my mind made up no matter what you say" thread, as this was more about price and part #'s (which *technically* don't exist for the rx7 apparently)
