I was just curious how most people deal with premixing. Stuff like, if you add the premix before you gas up, do you just guess how many gallons you're going to pump? Also, do you carry around a bunch of pre-measured little bottles, or do you just carry a jug of oil and a measuring device of some sort? I've always been curious, and I'm on the brink of ditching the OMP.

Dramon_Killer 04-18-2005 02:45 PM

After I fill up i bust out my 32 oz bottle and just fill it according to how many gallons i pumped.

https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...withstupid.gif simplest way, anything left over from the previous fill up will be sufficant enough untill the road mix's it up in the tank

mazdaspeed7 04-18-2005 05:10 PM

I usually put around 16 gallons of gas in my car(filled up at around 1/8 tank left), so Id just cary a couple of 16 oz bottles of 2 stroke oil in my car at all times. I kept the small bottles filled from gallon jugs at my house. I always poured the oil in before I put the gas in, and then just filled the tank until it was full. A pen works well to hold open the flap door in the filler neck for pouring in the oil if the bottle isnt long enough to push it out of the way.

GreyGT-C 04-18-2005 05:25 PM

same.... i just fill up when it's about 1/8 tank.... sometimes i get a lil more premix than normal it in it... but i could care less. A long funnel is you freind also..

ZenRXSeven 04-18-2005 06:35 PM

I've got this nifty plastic tube with a fiting that screws onto your generic-sized plastic bottle. It has a valve on it that you twist to open or close it, so it's easy to control how much oil you're dumping in. I think I got it at an advanced auto, or maybe even wal-mart. Anyway, I always put the oil in after I fill up with gas.

RONIN FC 04-18-2005 07:19 PM

I have a graded syringe I got from Auto Zone. Made for mixing 2 stroke oil.

nismo convert 04-18-2005 07:47 PM

like the others i fill up around 1/4- 1/8 tank add 500ml's i carry a 1 gallon jug of oil around.

oh and i fill it up first, make sure to use TC-W3.

Jedi 04-18-2005 08:43 PM

Oh god I cant wait to be rid of the OMP and all the smog crap under the hood...... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

Baldy 04-19-2005 07:58 AM

thanks for the replies! I'll probably end up premeasuring out like 16 oz. bottles, dump in 13 oz. to start with, gas up, then add however much more I need. I never really reach 14 gallons of gas, are the s5 tanks bigger than s4? (our convertible just received 16 gallons, blew my mind)

mazdaspeed7 04-19-2005 08:38 AM

S4 is 16.6 gal, s5 is 18.6 gal.

A fraction of an ounce isnt enough to worry about. Id just dump in 14 oz, and then fill up.

I have the same thing, and yes it was at advanced auto parts; however a small long funnel is far easier. Basically, I have the advanced auto part device, a small long funnel, and two 16oz (Penzoil yellow bottle from walmart or kmart) at all times on the car.

The worst part is cleaning the funnel afterwards https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683664.gif

SidewaysFC 04-19-2005 02:57 PM

yup, tcw3 from the auto store.

i carry about 3 32oz bottles at most.

fill up gas, poor in 1 oz per 1 gallon as pump meter tells me. close cap, clean up with paper towels at gas station and head out. no tools needed for me, just poor into hole. flapper seems to let in the oil without me moving it.

also, i have only been able to fill 15 gallons maximum. can't imagine jspec engines filling up differently if the tank is the same as aspec

RONIN FC 04-19-2005 03:10 PM

Wow, alot of you guys fill the tank. I personally dont like the feel of the extra weight.

bushy 04-19-2005 03:32 PM

I know I'm a newb, so dont flame me too much here.

Why would you need to premix the gas? I've ridden dirtbikes and I know two strokes need gas premixed but why would a rx7 need to be. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683664.gif

Check out those sites. The apex seals have combustion chamber on either sides, and run along the rotor housings, so they need some form of lubrication. The stock setup from Mazda has oil injection, but some people don't like the problems associated with the system after 20 years of age, they may say it doesn't lubricate well enough, or they don't like how it consumes the already-used engine oil. Premixing gaurantees lubrication all across the apex seal, and eliminates the stock oil metering system.

There are other points, and some may argue against what I post, but that's the main idea.

nismo convert 04-19-2005 05:14 PM

i just use a old oil jug, pour slowly no spillage.

j9fd3s 04-19-2005 05:27 PM

i bought an ice cube tray, it fit perfectly in the spare tire and held like 3-4 16oz bottles, on an s4 fillup, i would just put in half a bottle

Youre at a gas station, they always have those long straws. Just grab a straw when you pay for your gas.

i carry around an old bottle of two stroke oil that i refill at home...

everytime i fill up, i check how many gallons is put in the car, and pour the same amount of 2 stroke in ounces. the bottle has lines on the side so you can tell how many ounces you put in.

A tank of gas is around the weight of a light passenger.

So, let me guess, you personally don't like the feel of having friends in your car? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png

The difference in acceleration between a full tank of gas and a near-empty tank of gas is less than 0.1 seconds in the quarter mile. Do you really think you can feel this difference?

mazdaspeed7 04-20-2005 10:54 PM

If you want to be technical, the 16 gallon difference between full and empty on an S5 is only an 88 lb difference in weight, considering gas weighs 5.5 lbs/gal.

It may feel a lot more sluggish that it really is. I could notice a bit of responsiveness lost in my GTU, but overall acceleration when running through the gears was the same for all purposes.

RX7_TT 04-20-2005 10:54 PM

I have a question that may have been asked before but I cant find anything about it.

Can you premix while retaning the stock oiling system? Does anyone do this? Woudl this cause any problems with the motor?

I woudl love to do this if it ment a bit more engine life and better lubrication. Any advice?

you can but the amount you mix is much smaller, like 4oz to the tank

RX7_TT 04-21-2005 03:08 AM

So what kind of blending equasion am i looking at here?

Im putting in a brand spanking new S4 TII motor that has been streetported in my car this weekend, and im considering also premixing but im not sure how much i should use. Keep in mind i work in liters not gallons as im Canadian eh :P

I dont know about you, but I dont put passengers behind the rear wheels like the gas tank is. In fact, when I have a passenger (in the seat) handeling is more predictable. It feels like I dont need to preload as much before a sharp left as I normally would driving solo.

And drag racing isnt all people use their cars for. I can feel a difference in handeling when the tank is full, Just like if you added 80 lbs in front of your front wheels you would notice a difference.

80 lbs from the front wheels is the A/C, power steering, and emissions removed from a car. No difference in "handeling" [sic].

RONIN FC 04-22-2005 08:51 AM

What can I say? Maybe your not sensitive enough of a driver to feel.

Maybe you spend most of your time driving in a strait line. Which is fine, but there is no reason why you shouldnt feel a difference with a passenger or a full tank of gas in a 2700 lb car.

SidewaysFC 04-22-2005 09:32 AM
