i got a 88 turbo II, and i've been having little problems hear and there on this car but the recent one was the power steering. It happened twice once when i hit a bump and the other time when i chirped it in second my power steering will go out then come back when i turn off the car and turn it back on. Does anyone know whats goig on....o yeah on the way to work my speedometer cabel fell off, so i put it back on and it still doesnt work one thing that works is a stupid annoying beeping noize. What can i do to fix these things.

The Steering computer gets its speed signal from a sensor in the speedometer, so it can reduce the assist as you go faster.

The steering CPU even has it's own beep codes.

Fixing the speedometer will also fix your steering.

Not to hijack the hthread by all means, but I changed my clutched, so i obviosuly had to remove the speedometer cable, I put it back in the right way , so I think I did, and my speedometer still wont work. WTF did I do wrong.

Broke the little cable inside of it. Go to the parts store get a new one, they sell them in like 10 foot lengths, look at how much is poking out both ends insert the new one and cut off the extra. I had to get a new cable to fix my bouncing speedometer, it worked for a little while but now it does it again.

Found out, mine was unplugged behind the gauge cluster.

Those are only for the S5 TIIs. The other ones are not speed compsensating, but rather rpm based. Pull out the multimeter and start probing the pins for the power steering electricals. The factory service manual tells you what pin is what and what it should be for resistance/voltage. You will need to jack the car up on some good jack stands and start the can and have it run while it's in the air. Becareful!

Good luck.

Only the S5 NA's were RPM sensing assist.

All S4's and the S5 TII's were speed sensing.

Technically speaking, the 89 GTUs also had speed sensing PS computers.

If you are hearing a beeping then it's the Power Steering computer, which can be diagnosed as follows:

1-beep, pause, repeat - in case abnormality of speed sensor signal:

In case broken wires or short circuits occur to sensors or harnesses, the buzzer sounds 60-seconds after the engine speed signal of 2200 rpm continues for 18-seconds.

2-beeps, pause, repeat - in case abnormality of engine speed signal:

The buzzer sounds twice and repeats when the vehicle speed signal is missing input and/or no engine speed signal is found (short circuit, broken wire, etc.)

3-beeps, pause, repeat - in case abnormality of stepping motor signal:

The buzzer sounds when there are broken wires or short circuits in coils or harnesses.

4-beeps, pause, repeat - in case abnormality of the power steering microcomputer:

The buzzer sounds 4 and repeats when there are circuit troubles other than with the micro computer.

5-beeps, pause, repeat - in case abnormality of steering sensor signal: Steering sensor is mis-aligned or failed or steering wheel has been improperly installed.
