Was sprayin the wd-40 into my steering column last summer, moved the wheel around some while the car was off, went to drive off and my power steering decided not to work. So today i went to the junkyard and got myself another pump, put it in, same problem, only now when the car is runnin and i turn on my headlights, idle drops to bout 500 rpm... Im hopin i just need to get air out of the system to get it to work again... im missing the power steering... Any idea why else my power steering wouldn't work? thanks in advance

I really am not sure, you might have to elaborate alittle more on your problem, but my suggestion would be... (AND THIS MIGHT BE EVERYONE ELSES SUGGESTION) take it off, you'll like it alot more without, and it's not even that much harder to drive.

Thanks -- you want elaboration -- here i go: 88 vert, when bought the car the power steering was alittle squirly, 30mph + it was tight to turn the wheel slightly, but when i turned it past a certain point it got real loose and i turned a little too hard in some cases... almost had some accidents... Any way couple months ago had a squeak in the steering column, pulled the cover off the wheel, sprayed some wd-40, problem solved. Went to turn the car back on and felt like I had no power steering. Checked the belt / fluid, all good. Couple days later took off the PS belt, little harder to turn, so i figured the pump was goin up. Replced the belt to save my poor shoulder... Went to the best junkyard in maryland, got myself another pump, put it in this morning and no change. Idle drops when I turn the wheel or when i turn on the headlights -- wasnt a problem before this morning. Could the rack be going up? Any chance that PS computer i read about in the FAQ's has something to do with it? Any idea bout that idle? ANy help would be appreciated.



And yes, im lovin the 7, missing the back seats but **** happens, now i dont have to cart everyones asses around.



Too bad they didnt make the vert turboed... gonna have to play with that...

it might be the ps computer, it decides how much assit to give you, or maybe the rack is damaged?

I have a PS computer that is still in my car from when I took the PS off of my car, and it worked fine, I believe the pump was in the very beginning of going because, when the car was cold it was sometimes harder to turn then when it was warmed up. But at any rate I have the PS computer, make me an offer if you want it.

I have this exact problem at the moment.



It like you steer the car in "stages".. its fine,

up to a certain point.. then its like the wheel

gets "stuck" at a certain point..



Will it be the PS computer in my case as well?

I don't see how it would get stuck, since it is all directly conected, the PS is just assisting you in turning the wheel. So it's not like if it breaks that you will have no steering, unless your steering rod beaks or something like that.

So would it make sense to think that if the power steering computer was stuck on low assist it would cause the wheel to be tight?

Have you checked the balljoints? They could be old and tired, this will cause the steering to be sticky if all of the grease has oozed out over time. I had the same problem and that was it.

Would that be my problem as well?
