Ok, here's a question. I got real use to drifting useing my lackluster real easy powersteering

I havnt gotten a chance to break in my new tires and do a little sliding since i took my power steering pump off.. My question is:

1. Do you 'have' to have powersteering to drift?

2. Does it make it easier?

3. I think that's it.

thanks

FikseRxSeven 04-10-2003 02:53 PM

im sure you can drift without powersteering

Seppuku 04-10-2003 02:55 PM

as long as you can steer it well enough without the power steering you should be fine.

ChainSawOnSteroids 04-10-2003 02:58 PM

ok my point of veiw is yes you should have it to drift, its not necesary but much better with it than without it i experienced both

ChainSawOnSteroids 04-10-2003 03:01 PM

additionally when drifting without power steering, when you change direction of drift, the steering wheel yanks out of your hands pretty hard so be careful as i almost broke my fingers https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...O_DIR#>/11.gif

dont wrap your thumbs...you will be in pain

Geoffman72 04-10-2003 10:23 PM

After my last autocross, I say you can.

ChainSawOnSteroids 04-10-2003 10:51 PM

you can! jsut with a bit more muscle and more precise control, @apex-i dont wrap my thumbs fucker, i said fingers

drifter 04-10-2003 11:50 PM

I think its better not to have power steering, cos you have more control or knowledge of exactly which ways your tyres are pointing, but then... I drive a fb.

75 Repu 04-10-2003 11:54 PM

at least without it both your arms will get buff so people won't notice which arm you masturbate with..

'79rx7 04-11-2003 12:20 AM

I personally think it's easier to drift without power steering, because you can actually feel the road and feedback is a beautiful thing... unless you break some fingers

relisys190 04-11-2003 05:01 PM

Wow, you can break your fingers? WTF! lol. cool. I'll have to try it tonight when it rains.

relisys190 04-11-2003 05:07 PM

Guys we need to make Drifting a big thing here in the states. It's HUGE in Japan ... i think we could do it here. California, Florida, New York anywhere. I know a couple people that would drift with me. It really is an adrenilin rush.

ChainSawOnSteroids 04-11-2003 06:16 PM

im in NY (not for long) i drift when i take my car out, its really a rush but not many will go to that extent of driving as they are either scared or not skilled enough

relisys190 04-11-2003 06:18 PM

Your either Drifting or out of control. I dont Think there's really a borderline in there.

It really is a great experience.

ChainSawOnSteroids 04-11-2003 06:21 PM

actually, drifting is being out of control just controlling it https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

relisys190 04-11-2003 06:23 PM

lol, yes, well. It's a controled slide. Still AWESOME

Midnightdriver 04-11-2003 06:29 PM

https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/happy.png https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png I got into drifting while in japan and was schooled by one of the best im my area...you can drift without power steering but its more difficult...you need the power steering to keep the car on track and that is buy doing small quick wheel corrections..and power steering is a big help...doing it with out requires more skill in drifting and a mastery of you cars attitude in a drift.

bradley87se 04-11-2003 06:31 PM

i personally believe its a preference. Which ever grows on you will be the best for you. You can still know where your tires are with power steering if you are used to it. As for the masturbating problem, i just rotates arms. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/boink.gif

ChainSawOnSteroids 04-11-2003 07:17 PM

https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683785.gif NOICE!!! yea its all preferance no matter how you look at it, i have no power steering as i removed it, but i would take it back as it was much easier back then

Apex13B 04-11-2003 09:19 PM

Apex13B 04-11-2003 09:35 PM

my car is a really tired shitbucket sep, you might have better luck

i also think that the nut behind the wheel is loose....

ChainSawOnSteroids 04-11-2003 10:52 PM

nah cmon nik we all know the problem your car has, and its anot uncommon this problem romas our streets all the time,

its the freaking gasket!!!! you know which one ,

its the most important gasket in the car the one between the steering wheel and the seat! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/boink.gif

Moght wanna get a roll bar incase it gets ugly..

Jerk_Racer 04-12-2003 02:03 PM

No, you don't need the powersteering. I took mine out because I hated the feel of it. After a couple years without it, I'd never go back. After tons of autocrosses without it, it's not an issue anymore. Actually slides without it? Just as easy to control once you get used to it. Hell, even with powersteering it's next to impossible to control a slide if you don't know what you're doing. I haven't had any problems with the wheel messing my hands up. I just keep them clear of the wheel and let the caster straighten things out for me. So far no problems. But it is ultimitely up to personal preference. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683561.gif

relisys190 04-12-2003 02:07 PM

Well. rest assured it rained last night. And of course i went for a little drift session

My and my cousin Mike. (E30 M3) <--- VERY NICE

We go behind this Publix. there's a huge parking lot that is fresh paved awww, so sweet

So i'm doing some drifting for the first time since having my power steering off. Man, it's sweet.

I did however manage to jam my thumb. The wheel fliped back around and my hand happend to be there. I'll get use to it eventially

Somewhat off topic. But man that 88' M3 sure as hell can Drift. And she's quick as hell too. Beats my car off the line. But has a real low top end. she only seems to top out at 110 or so. And i can climb to around 130

Any way, i'm satisfied with drifing without power steering. Im sure i'll get use to it eventually.

ChainSawOnSteroids 04-12-2003 02:18 PM

haha keep those thimbs out of the way of the wheel, it has some force to it

cymfc3s 04-12-2003 04:20 PM

i have both, 2 89's with and without PS. Boy, now that i got the the PS running in the cosmo, i can't tell you how much i missed it!! hahah. Keep in mind, S5 PS is a big improvment over S4 PS. I like the simplicity of not having it, but i think its easier to drive with it.
