I have a crappy battery in my rx-7 right now (500 cold-cranking amps). When I try to start it, it's really sluggish. I thought the new ports made it run too rich, but here's the catch. Everything else works *lights, interior etc.* It starts 10% after 5 mins of praying, and 90% just damn near kills the battery. When you use another car to push it (around 5-10 mph) it push-starts no problem. Then the Alt. charges the battery. I just replaced the starter, and I'm starting to get very pissed off... Does anyone here have any suggestions?

make sure there isnt any corosion on the battery terminals, posts, or cables. if so clean them up. if excessive replace them.

It couldn't hurt to add more grounds(-) too...

How old is the battery and alternator? Might just need to replace 'em. Does the car run good when it is running?

the heat from our motors (especially a turbo) is really hard on starters, when i first got my car it was cranking slow, so i replaced the battery, then the alternator. Turns out it was the starter.

Usually when a starter goes bad it won't crank at all, in this case tho it was worn out, probably from all the flooding and cranking to start ect.

Besides everything else mentioned, get a bigger battery. I wouldn't put anything below a 750cca in my TII.

I cant believe you have a 500amp battery in it to begin with.

Go to Sears, get a DieHard Gold, its 900+ amps, and it comes

with a insane warranty- 3 year full replacement, 100 month warranty.

For the few dollars you save its not worth skimping on, especially in a cold climate.

I live in Arizona tho. Never thought it'd actually be cold. The battery came out of my bronco. I just got this rx-7 as a project car, and got it running. Yes, it runs perfectly with two exceptions. Firstly, the battery doesn't start it, you have to push start it. Secondly, I have no clue why, but for like the first 10 friggin' minutes, you have to literally keep it alive, then it idles at 1,500 rpms https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683358.gif The starter's brand new, and so is the alt. blah.

when was the last time it got a tune up, adjusted the timing, or the TPS, maybe someone adjusted the TPS thinking they were adjusting the idle.

Still 500amps is less then what the car came with when it was new I believe, a good battery is a must in a RX7 in my opinion.

You are right, 525 is the lowest available "compatible" battery. I'm just going to replace the starter (again). I have TONS of extras, so it doesn't really matter. The engine only has 200 mi on it. It was completely re-done. I know the guy, so he's not bullshiting. In fact, I saw the pieces apart, and saw the rx-7 with the engine out. It's tuned for the track, if that helps any, and with a racing clutch, regular driving is a B!tch!!!
