So buddy of mine had his trans rebuilt about 3 weeks ago. a week and 800km's later the motor decides to kick the bucket.



Is it possible that the transmission shop took out the rear bearing by mixing parts and or by damaging something as they put it back in the car.



I have a sneaking suspicion that it is the rear seal that is gone.



Any help would be greatly appreciated...

its possible, but if they put it together wrong, the engine wouldnt have started

If it is the wrong pressure plate and cluthc for it would that not cause some ailignment issues? As the specialty shop here says it is not uncommon to see a transmission shop **** up a Rotary. Due to the fact that there are some parts that you cannot swap between the years or something? Thus causing cluthc and pressure plate to shake a little bit, which will in turn rattle that rear bearing to hell?



I am just going by what I have looked up adn talked to people about.

not really, pp's are the same from 83-91.... flywheel is different, but i doubt they would have the wrong one sitting around

clutches are different sizes, but i dont think you can use the wrong clutch disc without noticing.

If the wrong flywheel was put on, you would have problems.

as it was the same fly wheel, that stayed on the car to begin with. I don't think it was that.



I still don't know, RX7 Specialties in Calgary said that it is not uncommon to see a transmission shop **** over a Rotary,, by thinking they know what they are doing.



That is why I am asking.

Want to see if it was possible that they screwed something up to cause the rear bearing to spin on us.

what exactly did they do? it would be really really hard to get the bearings to spin by taking off the flywheel

Im thinking the slight shimmy or shake would have been noticed before the car was driven a week anyway. Unless the car was a squeaker in the first place that is.

THey pulled the Transmissio0n, rebuilt it, and did a new clutch and pressure plate aswell...
