So i decided to polish my uim today, was kinda sick of havin the "hotboy" painted manifold. Figured out a great way to polish. No sandpaper, no dremel ****. Took me about a hour and a half total to do the job, and I can literally see myself in the manifold. Sorry the pics are a little blurry and blocky cuz I'm using someone elses computer to resize.

Hit that with some 400 grit then some 600. Mirror finish.
|
(after polishing compound that is..)
|
so... how did u do it w/out sandpaper?
|
yeah how did you do it?
|
Im not even sure what the thing was called, but its like this circular scrubby that I hooked up to the plug in drill, then polished away with it. It turned the manifold to a chrome finish on contact
|
how about you find out exactely what is is and let me know so i can get one https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png ...or i can just ship you a box of parts for you to polish...lol

I thought you said you polished it? It looks like you wiped some toothpaste on it maybe and then wiped it back off. Pearl drops perhaps?
Now see this pic? That is a polished UIM. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/bigok.gif |

Dave knows how to polish I tell you. Look at that UIM.
That's why I was saying hit it with some really high grit to get a closer to mirror finish! I love how yours is turning out but don't give up until it turns out like Daves! (Or mine... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub... ) Get the imperfections out of the casting! https://www.nopistons.com/gallery/al...l_100_0047.JPG |
T2777 has not been polished, thats more like sanded https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...DIR#>/wink.png
Obviously you can see what using polishing compounds does to the shine after its been sanded in Boost's pictures.. |
Is there a way to seal it so it doesnt oxidize in like a week. Clearcoat?

I tried some clear coat that eastwood company sells once about a year ago. It holds up well so long as you dont get any oil on it in which case it will yellow.
Here is a pic I took AFTER I clear coated my LIM. |

Here was before the clear coat.

if your not going to go all the way and polish it to high gloss,
then just spray can it with some aluminum paint |

I figured it would have turned out better if I just aluminum high temp sprayed it or something. Say Cheese! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683894.gif |

haha well im not nearly done with it yet. Like I said thats only abut a hour and a half. HAvnt taken any fine grit to it yet, or any polishing compounds. rest assured it will loook like that ^.
|
I like them both...cant we all just get along https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

id love to get a mirror shine like that, just gunna take a little work, but toally worth it. THink I'm gunna order up a lim gasket and do the lim too. Do you have to take the turbo off to get th lim off? looks like i might be able to pull it out, but its tight down there.
