While undoing the wheel nuts on my car to work on it I accidentaly stripped the thread on one of the 5 studs on the front right wheel. No nuts will fit back on it. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683358.gif
What do i do? Can i rework the thread with some kind of tool? Or do i need a new stud? I'm not worried about the thread in the nut (which is stripped also! https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683664.gif ) In the mean time, is it safe enough to drive short distances with only 4 wheel nuts if they are checked and tightened regularly? Replace the stud. It's not a big deal. I wouldn't drive it any more than I had to with just 4 nuts.

i believe you can knock the studs out and tap a new one in, you might have to do a little disassembly to put the new one in though, i cant remember what it looks like on a RX7 as i havnt had one for almost a year now but that will change

A press will make life easy. If you hit it with a hammer it will most likely mushroom.

We all carry presses around in our back pockets. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png While the above statement is certainly absolutely correct, I would not hesitate to get a LARGE hammer and proceed to whack on the end of the stud until it comes out. Even if it does mushroom a bit, the splined section that engages the hub should be a bit larger diameter than the rest of the stud. |

I wouldn't drive it any more than I had to with just 4 nuts. lol well ive been driving over a year with 4 studs on two of my wheels. no problems 20K miles haha i mean FC are 4 lug and they are fine, i can see how the lugs would kind of be unevenly holding the wheel on but 4/5 its still bolted on there pretty darn good. if your really cautious i wouldnt recomend any high performance driving like that, no excessive cornering or tring to drift or race around a track or something.... |

Yes, but there's a bit of difference between a 4-lug with all lugs tight and a 5-lug with four lugs tight. Sure, four will hold the wheel on, but I've heard of uneven torqueing of lugnuts causing warped rotors and gonnorhea and even worse. |
