My 1987 Turbo II won't start and I know its not flooded. I removed a plug, grounded it and it makes only one spark each time the engine starts turning!?!?
The problem started a while ago but happened only once in a while. It re-appeared more and more frequently to a point that the car now starts only on rare occasions. I did the Ohm test on the crank angle sensor and on the coils and everything reads OK! CAN SOMEBODY HELP ME, PLEASE?!?!?!?!?! |
bad coil or bad crank angle sensor ?
|
As I just said, I checked all of the coils and also the crank angle sensor as described in the Haynes manual by checking the resistance and it gave the proper reading. To make sure, I also checked the ones I got on my 1986 GXL that I keep for parts and I got the same readings.
|
oops sorry didn't read that...... maybe spark plug wires are bad ?
|
I already tried switching them with the old GXL and it made no change. Maybe it's worth a try buying a new set.....both sets are old!!
|
It's an intermitant problem right? Sometime it works, sometimes it doesn't?
|
Exactly!
And it's getting worst. |
Well then if you tested the coils and the crank angle sensor who is to say they aren't still bad... could test good then be bad then be good again, I would swap the coils from the other car, see what happens.

Thanks for the advice. I'll do the switch today and let you know this evening if it worked!

I had similar problem, but after replacing wires, cleaning plugs, deflooding engine, car started right up. I made the mistake of only pulling the trailing plugs when checking the status of the plugs, they were spotless. I later pulled leading and they were caked with crap (my oil control rings leak alot) took a dremel with wirebrush to the leading plugs and they were good as new. Even after cleaning the plugs though I had to deflood the motor for a long time, all the attempted starting with no spark had flooded it real bad. I was checking my spark with an inductive timing light, which was a bad idea apparently. What I get for being lazy.
