OK so today i went for a compression test on 87 rx7 na. The result was bad...my engine compression is low, the engine is running at 6kgs when it should be at 8 or above.

Im positive that the apex seals are causing this because the car is at 150k miles. I only bought the car for 2 weeks, it was dumb for me to not do the engine compression test when checking out the car and now i have to pay :(

I have a couple of ideas to fix this:

1) To get my s4 13b na rebuild by atkin rotary because they're close from where i live.

2) Buy a s5 13b turbo 2 and do the engine swap. I looked up online and the price for the engine plus ecu, harness, and transmission are about $1000(http://got-jdm.com/86-87-88-jdm-13bt...ness-p-68.html)

3) To buy s5 13b na and swap it because na last longer than turbo.

please help me make my decision, also can you guys estimate the the grand total of each swap from option 1-3 above?

I know that if i have my car engine swap by an auto mechanic it will cost around close to $800 or $1000

just wondering if there are any guides out there on how to take out the engine from the rx7 fc and swap a new one in so i can save some green.

do a s4 t2 swap because an s5 t2 swap takes more work if you plan on a t2 swap and if you rebuild yours then you can get port work done to it for more power then a s5 engine you buy plus the electrical work you would have to do for it

have you ever swapped a s4 t2 to an s4 na before?

Have it rebuilt and ported. Buying the engines you mentioned to swap in means it was pulled out of a car. The original car probably had the dogshit driven out of it, or had the dogshit driven out of it AND wrecked, so the engine will be on borrowed time.

I will be doing the t2 swap soon enough but as long as you have the parts you need it should be plug and play from what i read

Swaps are a great way to get more power out of a car with a smaller engine......ONLY if you have a lot of money to have someone do it for you or you can do the work yourself. Swap means more time, you will have problems to figure out, and usually a lot more money. I've never swapped a mazda but have done a lot of swapping on Hondas from automatics to manuals and from single cam to dual cam engines. An S4 na to a S4 TII would be easier than a S4na to a S5 TII. My Mazda had some kids try to put a S4 TII into a S5 TII..(for whatever dumb reason) and they never got it to run. I pulled the motor after finding out it had no compression. So buying a used rotary is a hit or miss. They dont like to offer a warrenty on them and if they do it's such a short period of time there is no way you will have it installed before you find out it's junk. My used engine was 1400 and came with a warrenty. 3 years later doing the work myself found out that the ECU they gave me was the problem. Warrenty was out and it cost time and money. I hear NA motors can get a lot of power just with a little work. My vote is a rebuild unless you arn't afraid of a little work and time. IMO

And if you turbo swap make sure you have the drive train

i would go with the turbo swap. talk to paul over there at gotjdm he can hook you up with the trans motor harness and ecu. plug and play

so much better just going series to series swaps plus its actually a bit nicer
