OK how in the world do you get the pilot bearing in without destroying it? We've tried a deadblow hammer and socket and it's not going past a certain point.
Suggestions? |
Just use a socket that is the exact same size as the bearing. Sink it far enough to get the seal in and you are good to go. How far in is it going?

It's a little past the flywheel nut but not nearly enough to get the seal in. Should I invest in a 6 lb. sledge? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

Sounds good to me...I'm sure we'll find plenty of uses for the sledge. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png I just want to get the damn car together, because if it's not done by this weekend, then no rotorfest for me.
|
you can still go, it will just be rotorless fest for you!
Good Luck. |
See you were right, hit it hard till it moves.
If ya want I can look for a bigger hammer and give it a few wacks. |
Try heating the area with a torch and stick the bearing in the freezer for a couple hours. Ive never had a problem getting the bearing in, its getting them out that can be a pain in the ass.
|
John, you can go beat on it with my homemade tool if you'd like.
Boxstock, I'd try that, but I'd probably ruin another bearing taking this one out again, and that would make me unhappy. |
make sure to put a big dab of grease on the brearing

Got it! All it took was a bigger hammer.

I dunno if I would go heating **** up, it isn't really that tight of an interference fit, I have never had to go to any extremes like that, put some elbow into it!
|
I was putting elbow into it, but my 1lb dead-blow hammer couldn't move it. The mini-sledge took care of business, though. https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png
