After finally getting that friggin' flywheel off the engine came apart in no time. Upon further inspection the rear rotor is f@#ked along witht the housing! The side housings look okay though. This is my first rebuild ever so I'm not sure if hey are good or not. They have no nicks or scratches from the chucks of the apex seals but they show some wear. Could you guys check out my pics and tell me what looks good to use again and what needs to be replaced?
Since I've already established that I need new rear rotor and housing, it looks like a new rotor and housing costs like $900 new! That would just be the end of my budget if I buy that. Is it possible to buy used rotors and housings? I can get the engine from my old rx7 for $600 with what ever is left of my racing beat turboback exhaust shippe to my house. It has an jspec '87 TII engine in it. Would I be able to use the rotor housings from it? Or would that not work in an s5? The engine had like 48k at the crash and was tip top up until the accident. I know the rotor has different compressions but would the housings work? Thanks a lot guys!!! |

The rear rotor housing. Crazy what less than one ounce of metal can do.

The rotors. The one on the left is the rear rotor (blown one) and the one on the right is really carbonized but it still looks really nice.

Here's the rear side housing. It looks similar to the front side housing in terms of wear.

Here's the center side housing. This is the side that faces the rear rotor.

So what do you guys think?

dam that **** loooks fucked up. Good luck on fixing it or buying yoself a new engine
|
yea it is common to buy used housing/rotors, since new are expensive, but then again you are taking the risk.... The front housings looks reusabel, but the center is focked, the rear looks like its all scratched too! Well I would just buy ur old engine back and put that in... I believe the housings are interchangeable...

lol ...stop messin around an get u a new engine... its gonna cost u alot now but its gonna worth it .... if u use used part its not gonna last as long as new ...u will pay double ...so do the rite thing the one u have is **** UP......NEW ENGINE BRO....

If it is possible to use the housings from my old car where would be the best place to get it resurfaced?
|
what happened, did a seal jump?
|
the S5 stuff is all different than S4.... use all S5!
|
go talk to schalliwag on the rx7club.com he is very close to finsihing his resurface housings stuff... goto the rotary perforamnce section and look for the longest thread u can find
|
The wear marks on the housing faces are normal and ok, as long as there are no scratches or gouges. If you run your hand over them they should feel smooth.
|
yeah all the side housings are smotth to the touch. It's just the rotor housing and the rotor that are scratched.
|
you should find a good used rotor, and but 2 new rotor housings

Do you guys know the cheapest place to buy new rotor housings?
