Well, I picked up a 86 GXL na 127k mi today for $1000. The guy just installed Tokico shocks, Sprint springs, HKS intake, Pacesetter header, Apex gt exhaust, and new catalytic converter (which will be the first thing to go). The exterior is gray and is in great shape aswell as the interior. I knew it was going to need a new engine. It shows signs of bad coolant and oil seals. It started to overheat on the way home. The temp gauge got up to a little over 3/4 of away up before I could get it stopped and off the road. I let it cool down and added some fresh water to it. It ran fine until about a mile from my house when it started to heat up again.

My question is how much does it take to warp the housings? Im going to get the engine remaned and it needs to have atleast one good rotor and rotor housing.

I dont think 3/4 would do it...Mine had a bad waterpump on it when I bought; so I bought it, I drove it to a friends shop (roughly 18 miles) and it got to 3/4 and its fine. As long as its not broiling and way into the H zone, it should be fine...wouldnt push it though.

I know this isnt exactly what your asking, I'm just giving you my perspective from experience.

Brent

Thanks Brent. The coolant was boiling both times when it got hot. I don't plan to drive it much at all until I get the new engine. I just don't want to shell out the extra cash if the housings are trashed.

Oh yea. BTW what is the symptoms of a bad water pump? Im pretty sure its the coolant seals though. Cause I had to add coolant when I first went and checked the car out and the coolant light still stayed on. Either way the engine is bad, cause im almost postive the oil seals are toast.

If you see water comming out of the water pump from underneath, its bad. It also made a slight grinding/whining sound. Thats how I new...

Does your car blow out white sweet smelling smoke? Thats a sign its going too.
