For the people that he painted their tail lights, did you use a flexible paint, or was it the same paint as the rest of the car is. Even thought they are hard plastic, do I still need a flexible paint? Thanks.

Are you talking about the plastic that lines the outside of the light or the light itself. Because the light itself its actualy colored transparent plastic itself.

I am talking about the black surrounding area around the lenses.

go to the interior/exterior faq section, there are topics on polishing them and tinting them, between the 2 subjects it answers the questions

they dont need flex by the way, if they are at a shop let the shop handle it, no need to tell them how to paint the lights, RX7 lights are no different then other lights.

If you are talking about the black around the lenses, I sanded the trim down, masked off the lenses, sprayed some primer on the trim and then used black trim paint. All done with spray from cans and it works just fine and lasts.

Did you clear coat them after you were done painting them?

gazellis 03-08-2005 01:57 PM

No, I did not clear coat them. I guess I could have but the paint left a nice matte finish that I liked in contrast with the high gloss of the other paint on the car.

So far it has stood up to a year of washes and waxes.

I base/cleared mine, but the use of single stage paint would eliminate the need for clear.
