I was drivin my S4 N/A round not bein too rough with it coz it was a hot day... but i ran into some serious heat problems.... it was the first real hot day... 38 degrees (over 100 for you guys i think) and my temp needle sky rocketed... wouldn't drop below 3/4.... even at a constant speed on flat ground.... then i went up a short hill (maybe 1/4 mile) and hit almost hit the top.... no place to stop so i chucked it in neutral and rolled down the other side and switched off... this isn't good =-\



Its totally stock... and i checked the water level and system for air etc... but found nothing.... i know i do have a small leak coming from my water pump.... so unless the impeller inside has stopped workin... i dunno whats wrong.... any ideas? How hot should a stock 7 get in those kind of temps? i know thats too high.

thermostat? its wierd that it would fail all of a sudden though....

Just change that water pump and do the thermostate while your at it with a OEM one, flush the coolant and put some new.

I used to have an 88 N/A and my cooling problem was caused by a cloged radiator, over 50% plugged! Car ran fine (according to that shitty stock temp gague) untill one day when it just overheated. so I sugest checking that out

Even though overheating kills rotaries, its amazing what N/A's can take. I had an electric fan in my 86 and one day at the track it shorted out. I wasn't paying attention to the guage of course and was sitting in 100 degree heat at idle for at least 5 mins!! NOT GOOD! I noticed it from steam coming out of the front, then I looked at the guage which was at the max hot. I immediately shut it down and when I popped the hood coolant sprayed through the tiny hole in the overflow reservoir and damn near hit me in the eye.... Anyway, I rewired the fan, proceeded to race all day and after another 20K on that car, I never had an issue.



It's dangerous as hell yes, but if it was only for a short period of time and you aren't throwing clouds of smoke, you probably got lucky like me and didn't ruin the engine.

the "h" on the 86-88 gauge is like 235-240f, whitch is right on the edge as far as blowing the motor.

stock gauges suck.

actually we have tested them, and the coolant temp gauge from 84-88 is withing about 2degrees c of what the aftermarket ones

on a bigger not when it idles it is irratic every second or so it goes up to about 2000 then back down again but it doesnt stall at all?????? any ideas would be greatly appreciated thanks
