Okay, so I've got my rebuilt motor broken in, and I've been running it fine. Idle's set too high, and its running rich, but I had exhaust leaks that I needed to get fixed before I could tune. So I had it in a shop, and drove it home tonight, about 2 miles. The whole way the temp gauge is climbing right up to the warning marks just as I get to my house. The overflow tank is bubbling, filled and overflowing. I let it cool down, my upper rad hose is collapsed. Pop the cover, rad is missing a lot, so I add water and close it up. Start it, idle for a 15 minutes, take it for a run around the block, idle for another 5 minutes, never went above 1/3 like normal.



Now, the car had been running nice and cool before I had the exhaust taken care of. (The gasket between the header and cat kept blowing out because the two pieces wouldn't mate up perfectly.) When I started the car, the fan kicked in and seemed to be running okay. After shutting it off I checked the fan, and found the following: one blade was busted in half lengthwise, and when I tried to spin the fan, it turned easily enough until it one of the blades started rubbing on the shroud.



Now obviously, the fan needs to be replaced, but could this somehow have caused the overheating?

Well, hopefully your not like me, and blew the coolant seal!!! BTW..I started my project, and its gonna take a while! Anyways...I'm assuming your using your stock fan, and if this is the case, it wouldn't cause you to over heat...the fan is only used while idling, but when you get moving a lot, the fan stops moving all together...its only there to pull air through while sitting in traffic or something. I would check your waterpump, and waterpump belt to make sure its not slipping. Other than that, I'll have to think a lil while.....
