I am hoping I got lucky, here's the deal, sitting at a light, notice the temp guage is at about half, which is not normal, I proceed to the nearest pull off area and it's just a hair above half, holy ****, I got steam rolling out of the hood, I am in a panick figuring I fucked a brand new motor, pop the hood start dumping water on the motor, notice the steam is coming from the upper radiator cap WTF?

Somehow the upper cap got cracked loose, no clue what happened there, tighten it down and the temp guage was already down, strange thing is it went down the minute I shut it off.

I'm hoping it didn't do any damage, still runs great, but was not fun. I'm guessing since it didn't really reach the boiling point it will be ok.

my old ito built FD motor was overheated NUMEROUS times and was fine.....if it runs the same its fine

j9fd3s 03-27-2005 08:43 PM

my mercedes did something like that, i added coolant (it leaks), and rechecked it the next day. i opened the hood and the cap was gone, so i ordered a new one, open the hood the next day cap falls out from the hood somewhere https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/blink.png

its a good thing the cap on that car only keeps the coolant from falling out and not the car overheating

phinsup 03-27-2005 08:51 PM

yea i dont think it really overheated, I am not sure, like I say still runs great, the worst case was the temp guage got to under 3/4 assuming the cap had been on there wouldnt have been any steam.

It still runs great so I am hoping to hell I am ok

j9fd3s 03-27-2005 09:09 PM

it should be ok, H=235f so under that is hot but prolly not dead

drftk1d 03-28-2005 12:57 AM

mine was at like 5/8 the other day.

not like i care...

Same here, my current engine temp gauge went all the way up a couple of times before I figured out what was going on with the cooling system; still running without a problem.

phinsup 03-28-2005 07:08 AM

whew, sounds like I might be ok then

SPD Racing FC 03-28-2005 12:54 PM

i've ran mine that high before you should be fine

Baldy 03-28-2005 01:01 PM

Got mine to 3/4, remember the bad thermostat? Ran fine after that, until I blew the oil cooler line. Have you changed the t-stat recently?

The thermostat and both caps were replaced when the engine was rebuilt about 2500 miles or so ago.

Rotarydragon 03-28-2005 01:18 PM

If it runs and isn't leaking oil between the housings don't sweat it.

Heck my 1st gen leaked oil between the housings and it still ran great. Just messy.

GreyGT-C 03-28-2005 01:20 PM

i know lots of guys that see 235* on the track for 20 minutes at a time without losing the engine.... i think you'll be ok.

Shane.Trammell 03-28-2005 01:32 PM

my vert's temp stays at 1/2 and always has, never cooler never hotter.

you have an s5, they run at halfway. s4 has an actual guage, and should run at about 1/3
