I was in my 87 NA five speed driving home, having some fun but not beating on it, when the warning buzzer went off and the temp gauge was over the middle, I could smell coolant.



I pulled over and saw the there was coolant sprayed all over the driver side of the engine bay. It was pooled up on the air intake pipe and battery.



The radiator doesn't appear to be cracked or enen damaged. The upper and lower radiator hoses were connected, and the cap and over flow hose were also connected. Im going to check the drain plug and heater hose. Is there any thing else I should look for.



Should I try and strat it up to see where the leak is coming from, i'll do this after its cooled down obviously.



Any help would greatly appreciated.

My best bet would be the heater hose on the driver side has cracked. When it does it just sprays everywhere. I know on the S5 it runs from underneath the leading spark plugs to the fire wall on the drivers side. Start there.

Thats it. Im ordering a replacement tonight and maybe the upper and lower hoses also.



Thanks for the help, I thought maybe I was gonna have to spend the big bucks!

I also am thinking about installing the killswitch to eliminate the need to take out the egi fuse every time my car floods, and to prevent it.



I have the 2 prong, 2 toggle switch rated to 25a, with the female connectors, the butt connectors and the 16 gauge wire.



My questions to every one is do I use the middle black and white wire on the black box with the yellow base, I tried to find a clear definition and explaintion of which wire to cut into.

Were you able to confirm the cracked hose? If that was it, you were darn lucky. Good thing you pulled over right away. I had something similar happen to me in an S5. The rotor housing broke at the coolant seal edge requiring a rebuild.

It was the heater hot that is right near the spark plugs and goes to the fire wall.

I wasn't as lucky as you with my first fb. The same hose blew out while I was doing 90 through Denver co. All the steam went under the car and my coolant level sensor wires had corroded off so I had no warning and driving that fast I was watching traffic. When I finally did glance at my gauges I cursed everything known and unknown to man and pulled over. As soon as I got off the gas it died never to start again. A day later the awesome town of englewood towed it for being an "unsightly" vehicle.
