I already ordered the header and pre silencer from rx-7store.net and I was wondering would using that exhaust wrap lower under hood temps. I have heard good things about it from the V8 guys and 4 banger ricers that swear bye it LOL. What you guys think
WORTH IT OR NOT ? |
It will lower the temps...BUT at the price of decreasing header longevity, due to the higher temperature the headers will be. John
|
And if it gets wet it holds moisture on the exhaust. Can you say rust. Just get them coated.
|
I'm doing the wrap. The underhood heat the header produces is just too much. I'll spend the $190 every 5 years or whatever for a new header if I have to.
|
Bad idea. I know someone who raced an FB, and his headers started sagging after the first race.
|
wasn't someone designing a tube from one of the brake ducts, to run air to a box built around the exhaust, funneling air from the front of the car, cooling the exhaust, and isolating the hot air from the engine bay? who was that?
|
I think i'm going to wrap my dp, just because I'm making it myself, and it only costs close to zilch https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png Its just too hot under the hood https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub..._DIR#>/sad.png

There's got to be something to do about the underhood temps. With the header on not wrapped or anything, both intake manifolds get HOT and even the cold air intake I have which is wrapped gets pretty hot toward the TB |
i would just make a heat shield between the header and um everything else. racing beat has some thing like that for the holley's

that "should" work on the stock intake also.
|
Its a pain to wrap and makes you all itchy, unless theres a better wrap now.
Also it's burnt through the header on the old bmw 4banger twice with wrap on, hasnt happened again with the holey pipes replaced and no wrap. |
Alright forget the wrap. I like that heatshield idea better.

^ what are those??? https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

There is better ones that dont retain moisture. And include stainless steel ties to hold it together. I think with a good ceramic coat + the exhaust wrap would prove to be very worth it.
|
I like how mine turned out
not only does it increase the life of your turbo, but anything else in the engine compartment for that matter, and let's face it, a $150 dp is cheaper than any other major part on the motor. Also I'd like to see the egt's that made automotoive grade stainless steel sag, I used to work at a stainless steel plant and have seen that stuff glow a whitish oarge, and still it took 500,000 lbs of force to flatten it out. Maybe you should be looking for a better quality downpipe. Also I put some high temp rubberized underbody coater on the bottom of the wrap, so it didn't get all rotting and nasty to handle. |

box in the header with inconel and have an 'exhaust' for the box exiting out the bottom rear.

I never said it was automotove grade SS. It was mild steel, which happens to be what most headers and downpipes are made out of. Stainless is another story. It can take the heat, and it wont rust either.

All this talk of down pipes when im N/A https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...O_DIR#>/11.gif https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...O_DIR#>/11.gif https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...O_DIR#>/11.gif
I wish I had a fucken down pipe! ! ! But for now headers and N20 should help me beat a stock TII |
